OK, I've worn this for about two months now. I use it as an everyday shoe to bike, walk, play. I used to be a runner but have not run in these shoes. The lacing system is actually quite good and makes the shoe hug the feet, so maybe the previous reviewer got a defective set of laces. There is spandex in the tongue of the shoe, so I find that I never lace and unlace the shoe for everyday use; I just slip it on and off. This shoe is like a cross between the Salomon XA 3D Ultra and their XT Wings. It has the control plate in the midsole area to protect the foot when you run on rocks, just like the XA 3D Ultra does. It's not quite as rugged or firm as the XA 3D Ultra, and is much lighter. Like the XA 3D Ultra, it has a rubber toe guard, but it is thinner and covers less area. There is a rubber mesh guard around a large area of the toe to protect the shoe from getting scuffed...this is a great idea. Arch support is very good, though not quite as firm as the Ultra; I would compare the arch support to a Vasque shoe. Vibram sole is flexible and grippy. Unlike the Ultra, this shoe could be used as a regular running shoe, making it more like the XT Wings. Looks nice too. BTW, you can get this shoe for much cheaper elsewhere if you look around.

I cross train. Hard. These shoes do the job thats needed and for the price I just cannot complain. Nice snug fit, easy in and out and great lateral support. They perform great in a mixed terrain high intensity bootcamp. I got them on REI Outlet "Deal of the Day" at 50% off and thought it was a steal.

The lace system quit working after about 8 runs. The clasps won't hold the laces so your shoes are always lose. I'll have to put in regular shoe laces.

I was very satisfied with these shoes for 6 months. They were very comfortable in a variety of conditions - trail running, light-hiking, just kicking around town. However, after about 6 months of wear the sole began to separate from the rest of the shoe. I attempted to superglue it back on without luck. [...]
