Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
After reading all the negative reviews, I was hesitant to purchase the repair kit, and send it to Cascade Designs for a factory repair.
That would have been a waste!
The repair kit is so easy to use! It worked perfectly.
I have no idea why people have trouble with this repair kit, many thanks to Cascade Designs for getting my camping gear back in shape quickly!

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
I used to work for an inflatable bouncing castle company and had to use tear-aid alot in the field to make minor to serious repairs. It is a great thing to have and easy to find online and in some stores. This kit has alot of things to make field repair more complicated than it needs to be. I would save your money and just go with tear-aid or duct tape if you so desire. If it helped me stop major tears in the field while 10 kids jumped on the repair for 8 hours straight then its good enough for minor leaks and rips on your therm-a-rest.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
The first time I used this product, it worked great. Yes its a bit complex, but if you follow the directions, then you'll have a secure patch.
The second time I bought the hot bond repair kit, I was furious when the hot bond wouldn't melt at a mere 3500' above sea level. Back at home(1000' above sea level), it wouldn't melt either, even after adding salt to the water to increase the boiling point.
The alternative patch kit comes with a more conventional glue, but it dries up quickly once you've opened it. Basically, there's no good option for ensuring that you always have a working patch kit at hand.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
This patch kit may be a pain in the butt to use but it is very effective. Read the instructions completely and have everything ready to go and you'll be ok. You can do 2 patches at a time with 1 pkg of glue if you work it right. I took away 1 star because I burned my finger! My fault but I'm still deducting for it.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
I used this kit to patch an air mattress. The kit is needlessly complex and the hot glue always dries before you can get in completely on the patch. This patch kit is horribly designed. But, without any other options, you have no choice but to buy it.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
The hot glue takes more minutes of boiling at elevation to get hot enough. But it works on the older T'rest pads just fine. On a recent trip, I didn't have a repair kit, and repaired a pin hole leak with a 1 inch square of moleskin. Worked perfectly. Haven't tried to repair a Neoair, so can't help there. Carrying a bike innertube kit, or even just a bit of glue, would enable you to fix a small leak in the older T'rest pads.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
This review was spurred by the others on the site. I was afraid that this product would be utter crud, but I didn't really know any other real options. The repair kit is overpriced if you ask me, since I only have one Thermarest and even if I bought another the glue would probably dry out before I would need this again. Also, the instructions are very unclear—my Thermarest mattress wasn't even named so I wrote in to Thermarest for clarification on which repair method/materials I should be using. Fortunately once that got settled, the patching went pretty well. It was a warm day so I definitely didn't wait the 10-20 minutes for the glue to get tacky (it was closer to 5), and there was a bubble in the patch this evening after I had left the thing inflated all day. However, I took a nap on the mattress and everything seems to be fine. I've rolled it up and may do another (post-roll) test run in the near future when I'm not in the field.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
I used the patch kit on a Therma-rest Trail Pad.
First of all, the instructions were very minimal and inadequate. I followed the instructions to use the patches as intended but after all the steps the patches still leaked. I tried a second attempt the next day and still no luck.
I ended up going with a good quality bicycle inner tube patch kit. After only 30 minutes my pad was as good as new. I'm going to keep a inner tube patch kit with my pack for now on.
Don't buy this kit unless you like buying things just to throw it in the trash.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
A chucklingly dismal failure. Unless I had a "bad batch" of "parts" I'd say that this product did not perform in any way consistent with printed claims. At 65degs. the adhesive set up in 2 shakes which pretty much puts the kybosh on the whole effort. If you're at home, with a heat gun, maybe even a hot glue gun, you'll probably pull it off. But, if you've got the hot glue gun and a reasonable patch substance then you probably don't need the kit. In the field I'd say a super clean surface and duct tape is the way to go.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest Universal Repair Kit:
The most useful item in this kit is definitely the hot bond stuff. Throw the glue dots away, they are useless, even on small holes. It is nice to be able to patch while backpacking though.
You could probably find some hot bond stuff for a lot less.
