Comments about High Sierra Col Pack - 35 Liters - Special Buy:
I bought this as a special buy and for the price I paid I am more than happy with this product. It is just the right size for a weekend trip or a minimalist extended stay. As long as you keep the total weight under 30 lbs, you will be pleased with the suspension and overall fit of this pack. The pack is versatile and the features are well placed. The pack cover is worthless. It is floppy, heavy, and I doubt that it is waterproof. It flops in the wind and snags on branches and does not fit unless the pack is over stuffed. I bought an aftermarket cover for it and have been fine. The parts of the pack that come in contact with your skin (inside of shoulder straps, framesheet, and inside of belt) is rough and it would not be able to be worn shirtless. I feel that they will become softer with more use. The straps also slip a little over time and need adjusting. However, I never found it to be annoying. The constant adjustment allowed the weight to ride in several different places over the day and I believe this kept my shoulders from getting fatigued. The pack material is granite proof and thick but a little heavy. I am willing to sacrifice a little weight for durability and economy. This pack is perfectly in line with my style of gear. I buy the best of what I can afford. If money were no object I would have sprung for a higher quality but much more expensive pack. However, in today's economy I have gotten more "bang for my buck" than I feel I could have with other brands. Overall, I would recommend this pack to people that are in the same boat as me. The working class weekend warrior that demands high quality but is willing to sacrifice a few things to save some cash.

Comments about High Sierra Col Pack - 35 Liters - Special Buy:
This is a great pack and the price is awesome for what you get. At first glance I thought it had alot of straps but fill it up and leave them alone. OR if you are climbing etc.... you can sinch them up and stabilize your load. It has alot of places to hook, strap or clip almost anything you want. It has ample space inside and well thought out inner pockets. Did I mention it comes with a rain fly?!![...] I really can't think of any bad things to say about it...unless you are climbing Everest save your money and buy this. I'm hard to please...but this pack and REI have earned my vote. Enjoy!

Comments about High Sierra Col Pack - 35 Liters - Special Buy:
For the price, this pack isn't too bad. However, there are two big drawbacks which caused me to return it.
I bought this for my wife to use when she comes backpacking with me, or for short overnights where my Baltoro 70 is too big.
First, the "universal fit" of this pack is nowhere close. I'm 6'-0" and it is several inches too short for me. 17"-19" is the actual range it is supposed to fit.
2nd, while it fit my wife, the shoulder straps are made of a harsh, rough net material. This was constantly rubbing her neck raw, and there way no way to adjust it out. She spent the weekend with socks tied around the strap where it hit her neck.
3rd, not as big of a deal, but you can not get a water bottle in and out of the side pockets while wearing it.
On the plus side, I think it is sturdily built for the price. The rain cover built in to the bottom is pretty slick.
Not a bad pack for the price providing it fits you and you can deal with the strap issue. But, for multi-day trips it just didn't work for us.
