Comments about The North Face Wheeled Thunder Duffel - 20'':
This is a superior carry-on bag. It's minimalist, thus presumably considered a "wheeled duffel" by REI, but it's about perfect for modern (smaller) aircraft (from tight 757 to dreaded Canadair 900 overhead compartments). I've replaced my beloved Travel Pro 21" carry-on with this because it's smaller, simpler and TP was often tight in many newer planes. As a previous review said, it's got a long handle, which being > 6'5" I love! Wheels, zippers, material, are all exquisite quality... actually better than I've come to expect from NorthFace. The only thing I sort of dislike is the text on the handle that reads something like "Dare to Explore" or some such thing. Seems hokey. Anyway, this is a real nice and simple 1-2 night bag that fits overhead better than standard carry-ons. Enjoy.

Comments about The North Face Wheeled Thunder Duffel - 20'':
First review, I've had this for a few months.
To give kind of a overview of how I travail on planes, I usually take 3 bag. 2 carry on, a Backpack that has anything I might need on the plane, or where ever I/we might be going(camera bag, jacket, laptop, food, etc. etc.) and a smaller suitcase, that houses all of (or most of depending on the trip) my clothes, dopkit, day pack, what ever. And 1 check-in bag, that has some of my fun stuff, equipment, other clothing I wont need for a few days, etc.
The first trip I took this bag on, was a 5 day photo shoot/adventure in the desert. Going through a couple of airports, and long car rides.
This thing handled amazingly. The construction is great, the "handling" if you will, is very good, no issues with it not wanting to fallow you. The material is great, feels rain and bullet proof. I don't say that lightly, I am the kind of person to get everything wet, no matter where I am, even the desert(I don't know how the heck this happens, but it does). I am a very rough'n'tumble kind of guy, I try to take good care of my stuff, but I also use it. Thoroughly. The side handles came in use very often, I bought the floor model (cause it was the last one they had here, and I needed it right then) so mine did not come with the "External compression straps" that is says it comes with. I'm fine with that, I make allot of my stuff anyway. The little loops all around the side of the bag seem like Molle, so one might be able to add flashlight pouches or what ever one desires, but for the sake of going fast through small places I did not add anything to the loops. Compressing the bag does is not entirely needed, its fine without it, but it is nice to have the straps to tie things down to. This bag held everything I needed, I even through my Osprey Manta20 daypack(empty)in it with everything else. It was a tight fit, but it fit. Going back to the build, the skate wheels are great, work nice for going of curbs, or just on carpet. The frame is well built, very sturdy. There are compression straps inside, that are nice, the zipper "shirt pocket" is handy. The see through ID pocket on the underside of the bag is also nice, not so much for keeping true ID, but luggage tags yes. The handle's poles feel like what would be a ice ax handle(which I think is awesome!), they make the sturdiest handle on a suitcase I've ever seen, and add a good frame for throwing other bags on top.
There is one drawback, that may be bad for some people. If you are short, you might not like this bag very much. If your tall, all the better. The handles awesome iceax style frame is very long. This adds some ability to tie on what ever the heck you can think of, but can make walking around with this thing not so fun for some. I'm 5'9", I have no problems with it, but I'd say if your under 5'6", or have monkey arms, you might want to walk around with it a few times before you take it around the world. Just something to consider, I believe it was part of the design, I actually like it quite a bit, but others may not.
Overall, a fantastic "Rolling Duffel"(I hate that this is in that section, it should be in carry-on, could make it hard for people to find), very spartan in design, no crazy kangaroo pockets that will get destroyed, no cheaply placed zippers, no bad wheel system, nothing that has popped out so far. I would definitely travail with this again, and again, and again. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those things you have for 20years, and look back on going "Wow, I'm glad I found this!"
