The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I originally went to REI to buy the Cascadia 5 from Brooks, but after trying it on I worried it was too much like a regular running shoe, and wondered if it would lack the stability, traction, and protection I like for running over rocky trails (it should be noted though that many pro ultra runners really like the Cascadia, even over very tough terrain). I changed my mind and went with the Solomon XT Wings 2. They have succeeded in striking a great balance between the ease and comfort of a road shoe and the ruggedness of a trail runner.
I love these shoes. Good foot protection and stable on uneven terrain. Ran on some wet rocky trails and these shoes displayed great traction and control--they really stuck, even on steep, damp surfaces. Just the right amount of stiffness. Breathable (not waterproof mind you), and fairly comfortable on hard surfaces including paved roads and sidewalks. That said, I would like a bit more cushioning, though that could be solved with a good aftermarket insole, which I may purchase. Roughly half my weekly mileage is run on trails, so I have high standards for trail runners--these do not disappoint.

These are great. I have backpacked with other sneakers but my calfs and ankles would get sore after 10miles. These can handle a 40lb pack for 4-5 days and my legs are as fresh as if I had true hiking boots. Light but stable, you won't be disappointed. I have 2 pair and am getting some gore-tex ones next.

Comments about Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
These shoes are more cross-trainers than trail runners. I've worn these 6 months.
First the bad: As others have said the tread wears quickly. They wear down fast on pavement especially. Two weeks in NYC and these pair were worn considerably. Also, they don't hold up well in scrambling/rock climbing conditions.
There's more good than bad: The speed laces are perfect - fast on and off and perfect tightness every time. During the day I can loosen them up a bit without untying them. Even loose they work well as simple slip-ons to run out of the house at a moment's notice. They breathe REALLY well. If you're looking for a shoe that keeps water out, these aren't for you. Good wool socks will keep you warm in cold/wet conditions, but in hot weather they're the best. The cushioning is phenomenal. The heels are beefy and the toes are spare. This not might suit most people. I like how I can grip a bit with the minimally cushioned toes going up narrow/slippery trails and come down hard and fast on the heels without pain. I normally wear Vibram Five Fingers (like barefoot) and these things feel like Cadillacs on the trail. The upper seems to be very durable.
Bottom line: Buy if you need ventilation, cushioned heals, fast lacing, protected toes, trail shoes only.

I bought these shoes 1 month and a week ago 260 miles ive put on them hard miles and they are wearing out so quickly. I love them they were awesome at first but after the first month they just felt broken dwn i guess i beat them im an ultra runner thats what therefore right? there not for 300+ miles thats for sure. Great shoe. Wish theyd last. Only dirt and rocks were my playgound.

Comments about Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I've owned two pairs of XT Wings. The XT Wings 2 are just as great. I take these shoes up a goat trail on a 1000 ft hill in Afghanistan a few times a week right now. They are the perfect shoe to get me to the top so I can run down the rocky road back to the bottom. At home my running trails go from rocky to sandy to street and I couldn't ask for a better shoe. Once they get too worn out for running they make great yard work shoes too.

Comments about Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Just bought these shoes today and couldn't wait to get them on and see how they felt. With that being said I got home and did a 5K in them this afternoon. The terrain was 60% road and 40% off road. I immediately felt more nimble in them due to their light weight and great tensioning system of lacing! When I began to run I noticed that the support was on par with other road shoes I've had in the past. As far as off road use I have no other purpose built off road shoe experience. Nonetheless, I felt they were great off road and handled great. Can't wait to get some more mileage out of them!

These shoes are awesome...I use these shoes mostly for workout and have an older pair for everyday use. I have a hard time finding comfortable shoes and can't think of anything negative to say about them....

Comments about Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I have had an older version of these for a couple of years. They had heavy use for about 3 months straight and I was very pleased with them. However, they have had mostly light use since that time and still look and feel very new as I have been using other shoes a lot of the time. For the most park they have held up well, until recently I noticed the right shoe leaks very badly in the toes.
If shoes for very wet conditions are what your looking for be prepared to replace these pretty quick if you use them heavily. Otherwise I would recommend them.
But for the price I probably would not buy these again. Think I'll be sticking with Vasque from now on.

Comments about Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I use these shoes for hiking, including a rim-to-tim trip in the Grand Canyon, and as casual wear. I was disappointed at how much heavier these were than my prior Salomon trail runners. The shoes have held up well, except for the quick laces, which have failed on both sides. Traction is very poor. So, they're fine for trails and streets, but NOT for any kind of scrambling or approach hikes.
