Great shoes. I live in AZ and SoCal, 50/50, do a lot of mountain trail running (yes. all year around!), the rougher the better. I have tried many brands in the past, have leaned towards Adidas for awhile. I think Salomon is the best... so far. Great combination of stability, support and cushioning. The first running shoe that holds my ankles "in place", altough after multiple injuries I tend to have weak left ankle, prone to sprains. I recommend these shoes to serious trail runners.
There is one negative aspect: ugly colors! Why do they have to make them hideous pink or baby blue and biasly assume that women will like it? I believe these shoes are not intended for 5 years old girls.
Service and delivery comments:
Great REI service as usually. The sales person had helped me to find all available color options, but it is a manufacturer's problem that they only offer baby blue and bright purple/ pink whatever it is called.

I didn't purchase these (I was looking for the Gore-Tex version), but I felt absolutely compelled to write a review. These are hands-down the most comfortable shoe I've ever tried on. Period. It's like putting on the best slippers ever and discovering they're actually trail runners. Sure, the colors are hideous and they look a bit funny, but these are amazing shoes! If you've got foot problems, try these...they might change everything for you.

I am now on my second pair of Salomon Wings. I have one pair for recreational use and one pair for work in the emergency room. I am on my feet 8 hours at a time and these are some of the best shoes for working that I have ever worn. I agree that more colors would be nice. (pink shoes for women?) I am wearing a half-size smaller than other shoes. I am a consisitent size 8, but am wearing 7.5 in these. Now that they are on sale, I'm tempted to purchase another pair, but who needs 3 pair of identical shoes????

I've had these for almost 2 years now and worn them as an every day sneaker--walking around my college campus, occasionally taking them on a hike or other adventure, even dancing in them when the mood strikes. I kill shoes pretty quickly, so the fact that these lasted 2 years is about average, maybe slightly above. I wear them with orthotics, which works well.

I have had these shoes for 2 years, and will be replacing them with the same thing soon. We have traveled to New Zealand, Grand Canyon, and Banff, and I wore them all day, every day. They are so lightweight, comfortable, and stable. I wear them running errands, walking, hiking - they are my "go to" shoes! We live in Minnesota, and they do great in snow with their traction. I have plantar fascia and wear orthotics in them, and they work great that way. The pull cord makes putting them on and off a cinch.

I run and hike in these. Had them almost a year now. They are wearing great. They've fit perfectly since day 1. I was hesitant regarding the price, but they've been worth it. The color is baby blue & grey - not sure why that'd be considered ugly, but it'd be nice to see other colors of course. Blue is a big blah as everything is blue. They have good toe room, don't rub, the laceless system I think has a lot to do w/ the comfort and flexibility. I can adjust as I go quickly. I will never go back to lace shoes again. They are water resistant, but I wouldn't go spraying a hose on top of them. To get truly waterproof shoes, you need gortex etc. and you will give up 100% of ventilation. These have a bit of both - resistance of water plus ventilation. If I do spray the hose and hit the top lightly though like when doing things with my dog, yes, it will soak through. I spray them regularly with scotchguard to help w/ this. I often have to wash his paws after we hike, so I hate having to change shoes just for this activity. They sit higher on my ankle so resist rocks going in my shoes -- the best compared to some nike shoes for trail running I've had.

I bought these shoes a year ago and they almost seem to have gotten better with age and abuse. They fit like a dream. I wear them daily and the tread is still excellent- I wore them for a spring and fall's worth of hiking and trail running, and a summer's worth of daily road running and cross-training (i'm on a wildland fire crew, so lots of strenuous workouts). I used to swear by the Asics Kayanos (about the same price) but I needed new ones every year. Trust me, you cannot collapse this shoe or wear out the tread very easily. They are TOUGH.
I did the 22-mile Alpine Lakes Wilderness hike in one day in these shoes and my feet felt great! I've nearly quit wearing hiking boots, these are so stable and comfortable, even with weight in the pack. They are bomb for mud and wet trails, although they are not waterproof. I will never buy any other shoes again.

I use these for ascending The Incline; Can be wet, so use stormsocks, and Microspikes. These shoes enable me to 'SCREAM DOWN' Barr Trail in Colorado. The GoreTex pair of same model are clunky, uncomfortable and not as flexible. Before the XT Wings, I bought 5A Comp. These XT Wings are the best ever and have a heel notch that readily accepts Traks and/or Spikes. The others do not! I came from California where my shoes were a full 1.5 lbs lighter! Took some getting used to, along with thin air. I love these shoes!!
