Comments about Montrail Mountain Masochist Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I run my 6'3", 200 lb. frame for about 10 to 20 hours per week on mountain trails. Over the years, I've run in many models made by Montrail, Vasque and Soloman, but generally prefer the trail adaptations from traditional running shoe companies. The Masochist is light, flexible and fits like a glove, making it agile on technical trails yet fast on smooth surfaces. I did a long run right out the box with no rubs or stiffness. Still, don't expect a road-shoe feel. While providing a stable, well-cushioned ride and lock-down heel for steep decents, the Masochist falls a bit short in mid-foot support for my narrow flexible foot, making the heel-to-toe transition somewhat clompy. Still, the Masochist is a far better runner than most so-called "running" shoes sold by hiking boot manufacturers, and probably the best stability running shoe Montrail has ever made, even besting the venerable Leona Divide of yesteryear. (Montrail's Hard Rock provides superior mid-foot support and rock protection, if you can tolerate the stiffness and extra weight.)
