Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

Wow! What a great little stove. I debated over getting a liquid fuel stove like the MSR WhisperLite and a isobutane stove like this SnowPeak GigaPower.

I decided on the GigaPower because there's much less maintenace/things to go wrong (only two seals, no primer pump, leak free canisters, etc.) than with a liquid fuel stove.

The piezo igniter works amazingly well! You only need to crack the valve on the stove just to the point that you hear gas flowing and then press the igniter button. If it's flowing too much gas it can give you troubles trying to ignite it. Once it's on, bring up the heat by gently opening up the valve so that you can see the heat flame covering the base of your pot.

As far as the .7 L pot and spork go, they all work together incredibly well! You can fit one 110g fuel canister and the stove in the pot and the spork fits through the pour slot in the lid. Though not mentioned in the REI description for this starter kit, included with it is a mesh bag with drawstring that will fit around the pot and an extra fuel canister on the top of the lid which holds into place when the spork is in the pour slot.

        Tips and Tricks:

-To get the four legs to fold together in the most compact form, start with any one of the four legs and fold them in counter-clockwise.

-Make sure to fold the pot handles out away from the pot surface before you start to boil the water! Titanium is a great heat conductor and if they are in the storage position against the pot they will be too hot to touch when the water is boiling!

-There's a thumb tab on the lid to hold the lid while you pour. It'll be fairly warm when you go to pour your boiling water, but if you want to, you can use the spork handle slide in the slot of the thumb tab and hold the handle of the spork when you pour the water. You can also then use the spork handle to lift up the lid.

-Once a year or so apply a very light coat of vaseline to the small o-ring next to the pin valve to keep it from drying out and cracking.

Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

When purchasing this stove I knew what to expect when it arrived, as I have been eyeing it for the last couple of years and have been trying to justify a second, lighter use, smaller trip stove than my old msr xgk workhorse. You will be hard pressed to find a stove in the same class that is more robust or easier to use and carry along. I opted for the reg stove as opposed to the ti version as it is already so light weight. The igniter is a great option and simplifies use in my mind(since I usually leave a lighter or firestick somewhere in my bag where it's not always easy to get to), although you shouldn't be out in the wild without a second way to light it just in case. I bought mine as a starter set with the small ti pot/kettle(as most my other cookware is closer to expedition weight and size) and I had ultralight, couple day/day trips in mind. The pot was actually that caught the most of my attention in it's first use. It pours better than any other cookset I have (msr, alpine, generic). It is about impossible to make a mess with it and make it drip down the side, just the perfect angle and finished edge I guess, anyways its just great and was a pleasant thing that I didn't anticipate. I tend to use msr fuel canisters with it as they are easier to obtain where I am and have very stable size which makes it better for other pans it you ever take frying pans along. All in all don't hesitate on this purchase if your contemplating it. I can't think of a single down side to this set.

Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

Its a great stove to keep in my pack for Search and Rescue. Its not something I would always cook with, but its nice to have in my pack if I get called out at night and need to make dinner or a cup of coffee. Its light wait, small, and easy to use. I have used it about 12 times or so and only problem I have with it if I get above 10,000 feet.

Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

I bought this from REI at their last sale - got it for $20 off current retail price. It's a great deal at only [$] and it can't be beat. I was going to get the MSR PocketRocket and a titanium mug, but the deal just couldn't be beat and I'm happy with it so far. I've burned through about three 110g fuel canisters while hiking, camping, and when the power goes out. The temperature control could be a little better - you have to turn it just slightly past where you want it to be and it'll slide back into where you want it. Just 1/8 or 1/16 turn past and it'll slide back. Other than that, a perfect system.

Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

I have had this stove for 6 months now and I absolutely love it, when it is windy it still lights with just my body as wind protection and then rages on in the wind until I decide to turn it off. the stove part cools down very rapidly as well as the titanium mug and spork, I'm talking about half a minute to a minute and a half and they are fully touchable with bare hands... in addition to hiking and backpacking the small size and light weight is amazing for those long mountain bike excursions, just carry your food and the stove and you've got a hot meal on the trail, all around this thing is awesome!

Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

It's a big decision... What to buy for cooking. I almost went with a fancier looking cookwear and am glad I didn't.

The burner works great and controls the fuel well. The igniter works great. I can't believe how long a canister of fuel lasts. It boils water really fast -even camping in the low teens at 2800ft. Ti cookwear is great for transferring heat. And this is the perfect kit. I may add a Ti pan for cooking the fish I catch though.

I haven't used this outside yet, but upon checking it out at home, I'm impressed. I did have to exchange the stove because the piezo igniter didn't work, but its replacement works perfectly.

While the jury's still out on durability, this appears to be a very low-maintenance stove. I also bought the optional wind screen, which should prove handy in cooler and breezier conditions.

Comments about Snow Peak Starter Kit:

I bought all these parts separately right before the Jetboil came out... I should have waited. All the parts themselves are of great quality - I love titanium. All the parts get too hot to touch. The stove is a gem, but is difficult to light at high altitude, and if there is any wind, will take a long time and a lot of fuel to boil water.

The entire package creates a setup very similar to the Jetboil, which has lots of nice plastic/insulating parts to keep you from needing to use a hot pad. The Jetboil boils water MUCH faster. However, the flexibility of the Snow Peak stove lets you use it with any pots.

I like it, but find myself using the jetboil more often.

used this stove in 35 to 45 degree weather with light winds of 10 -15mph with no problems.lit the first time basically everytime and so far has brought 10 to 12 cups of water to boil using the same size fuel with fuel still left over that fits snugly in a easy to store setup,it also comes with a stow-away bag to keep it together,at least it did on my 14 mile hike.the titanium spork and cup serve their purpose well, had to use my body to block some wind but in turn helped to heat me up while waitng on the 3min +/- boil time.a little pricy for my poor mans budget but looks like it should last for a good while

The more I use this kit the more I like it. I was using this kit today and discovered that you use the handle of the spork to lift the lid and to hold it in place when straining the water out. And I though the only reason for the hook on the lid was to hold the fuel tank.

A great stove with a super cup!
