Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I have many white water kayaks and an old 12 foot wilderness systems Pungo. I was sick of stuffing myself into a whitewater boat every time I brought a guest. I bought a Dagger zydeco at REI in Framingham after careful reviews. I tried it the next day on a calm water paddle with my some friends. This boat exceeded my expectations. It tracks well, is fast enough and can hold a surprising amount of gear. My girlfriend tried it on the return trip and refuses to give it up. I ordered another one 2 hours after I got home. The poor old Pungo will be carted out for trout fishing only now. Get this boat!

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

This is good boat for the price I have used it for some class II rapids and a 12.5 mile float down the red river and handled for both and it paddles better than one would think for a short boat on flat water.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I used this kayak for a 5 day trip on the Mississippi. It cut through waves like butter. The only complant would be exiting and entering the kayak is unstable. This is because the shape of the hull, although this shape gives the kayak the function to cut through waves like butter. I love this kayak and it's price.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

This is a perfect choice for those looking for a light weight kayak that is easy to transport from your vehicle to the water. The only compromise is that is will never be the fastest (it's only 9' long)but it's a great choice for mild rivers or lakes. I choose a sit-in because I was tired of having a wet seat while kayaking. It is a well-balanced little boat that gives you a very secure feeling.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I love it! I am 5'4" 120# and was able to lift the kayak on my car by myself, as well as take it down to the launch! That was very important to me. There is a lot of room to take things you might need (waterproof box, towel, waterbottle etc) but not much else besides a small backpack. The seat is molded plastic and won't fold down all the way, but you can manage. Also, I wish it had a paddle keeper, but REI offers paddle keepers you can install yourself! The cockpit area is large enough that my small westie had room to come with me for a ride. Can't wait to enjoy this kayak this summer.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I'm NOT a kayak guru, but i've spent a few hours on the water to say the least.

This is my first recreational kayak (other one was a touring kayak, i know, kinda backwards) so it's been hard to adjust but i'm happy with the purchase. So far only been on lakes.

The Zydeco is WONDERFULLY stable compared to my touring kayak. My girlfriend bought the same boat, had never been in a kayak, and had no issues with entery/exit or stability in those $#!$ jet-ski wakes (some people are unbelievable) The plastic or whatever it's made of seems VERY sturdy. It feels slow to me, but again, that's just due to the type of kayak that it is. On the other hand, i feel like i can turn on a dime if i want.

I would say this is a great kayak for a beginner. This kayak offers lots of features but is best at nothing. Experienced paddlers may want to specialize in one type of kayak or another. Of course, who am i to tell an experience paddler what to do??

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

Got this kayak as a gift recently. Nice and light and can be stored easily. It has a problem that it does not track straight. It keeps turning gently LEFT which gets annoying for flat lake kayaking. Happened the same with everyone who tried this kayak. REI told me there is an aftermarket plastic rudder than can be attached through the kayak to help. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I have sailed and canoed but never kayaked. I took this out on a river with somewhat high and fast moving water for the first time with a group of experienced kayakers. The river had some maneuvering challenges and the kayak handled it fine.

I recommend it for someone looking for an overall good kayak that is small and easy to car top.

I was debating between an inflatable and this. I am glad I picked this because I never need worry about it popping. It is very tough.

I just strap it on my car and go. It is so light I can car top and portage easily and there is no need to inflate it.

I am 5'10" and 200 lbs. It fit me just fine and is comfortable.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I never kayaked before on a river. Only once on a flat lake. I used this on a high fast running river, with no white water, with a group of experienced kayakers. It performed great. Everyone in the group was impressed with it's performance. It handled well on narrow turns and felt very stable.

Comments about Dagger Zydeco 9.0 Kayak:

I have been running rivers for several years in recreational kayaks. The Zydeco can handle up to class II rapids easily with a sprayskirt. It handles great in fast currents as well as flat water. This was my fourth kayak purchase and the best boat for the money. Really like the padded knee rest for bracing in whitewater.
