The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
Beware if you use this lock. I tried mine in the house several times before my commute, and it was smooth as silk. I rode to work on that fine Friday afternoon, came out to unlock my mtn bike after work, and it would NOT OPEN. I worked with it, in great frustration, for quite awhile, and gave up. I managed to get a ride from a friend, and I went back to the store. A very nice bike mechanic suggested that I manipulate the lock cylinder a certain way with a pin-like device. So I went back to work and played around with the cylinder, which finally freed up the mechanism, and my bike.
I have opened and closed the lock at home many times since then and it works fine. But I cannot trust it in a real life bicycle locking situation. I ended up returning it. Check out some bike review websites to see other people with this same problem. I now use the new Kryptonite U-Lock. I have relied on Kryptonite U-Locks since the early 1990's, and it they always worked flawlessly. I wish that REI would stock Kryptonite locks, so that we have a choice.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
Don't waste your time with the anti-theft program. In order for them to accept your claim, you have to send in the broken lock AND a police report within 7 days. No thief is dumb enough to leave behind the lock and no city gov't is that efficient. I got my bike stolen with this lock and OnGuard is denying my claim under the protection plan.
Even before my bike was stolen, the key was never smooth. It often took 5-10 minutes to get it to turn. I'm never buying an OnGuard lock again.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
I purchased this bike lock to secure my bike at work, school, and around town. I was new to using a cable in conjunction with the U type locks, but after a few different, some funny looking, configurations I can now secure my rear tire, frame, and front tire to a number of bike racks or posts. I've not had any mechanical issues with the lock, keys, cable, or any other part of the lock. It's key action is actually smooth and easy to work for me. The lock itself is a little bulky so I wasn't able to use the frame mounting piece, instead I just bungee it to my rear rack. Overall a sturdy reliable lock for securing your bike.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
A tough lock. It took the locksmith 30 minutes to cut through it.
That being said, this lock is a complete waste of money. It jammed up and wouldn't unlock - I hadn't even had it for 2 weeks. Cost me $110 for the locksmith and 3 hours of my time.
Won't be buying from OnGuard again.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
I was disappointed that after primarily inside use (locked in a shed) then on occasion during car transport the lock has rusted. I too like other reviewer had lock fail and took much work to finally open. I will try another brand.
Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
Had this bike lock for about a month before it jammed up on me. I didn't drop it or anything, just one day the keys wouldn't fit inside of it. Nothing was stuck in the keyhole, it just wouldn't work. Unfortunately I had lost the receipt, but I thought REI's Satisfaction Guarantee would allow me to exchange this product for a new one that actually worked. However, the clerk would only give me credit the lowest recent sale price, meaning I would have to pay about $20 to exchange my broken lock for a new one. The clerk said I could have bought the lock at [@] or somewhere cheap and try to return it to REI for a higher price, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but whatever. The clerk also suggested that if I was an REI member, this never would happen because they keep track of all your purchases. Great.I ended up just returning the lock for less than I paid for it and taking a loss rather than dealing with the hassle of this low quality product and frustrating customer service.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
i purchased this just over a year ago to keep my mountain bike locked up around the city. i commute 6-10 miles a day going to work and/or school and while this has kept my bike secure, i can't say that it has done so admirably. i tried keeping it mounted on my bike with the attached mounting clip and it broke within a the first few weeks, now i just carry it in my backpack. last spring, after about a year of daily use, the plastic housing that protects the locking barrel broke. the lock still functions, but when it's unlocked the two halves of the plastic sleeve fall off. for the price i expect much better quality out of this product.

Terrible lock, won't be buying from OnGuard again. Within two weeks after purchasing it, it stopped working and I couldn't get my bike unlocked. Had to call the locksmith (which cost me $110) to get it cut off.
It's a real tough lock - took the locksmith 30 minutes to cut it. But it's completely useless when it won't unlock and you're stuck downtown for 3 hours.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
Lock fixes tightly to the bike frame clip. Comes with sliding cover to prevent water getting at the locking mechanism. This lock is heavy duty and is highly recommended by REI, but I suggest you do the research online to find the best protection to suit your needs before committing to buying. I have accidentally dropped it several times from at least 4 feet and there is no visible damage. If you are leaving your bike overnight in a high trafficked area I suggest you fork over some serious cash for the best lock out there. For the price, I recommend this lock. NO lock is impenetrable.

Comments about OnGuard Pitbull DT Combo U-Lock with Cable:
I'm a commuter cyclist and would not recommend this lock to anyone who rides on a frequent basis. Followed instructions for care and the lock would not open after owning the thing for 3 weeks. Had a lock by the same company and the same thing happened after 1 week of use prompting me to purchase this current lock. Learned my lesson the hard way :(.
