Comments about Nikwax TX-Direct 2.0 Wash-In Water Repellent Treatment - 34 oz.:
I've used TX Direct spray for years on my jackets and this time decided to try the Wash-in product. Acording to the product it was safe for Ultrex. I followed the directions, and found both of the jackets were ruined by this product, literally falling apart. When I contacted NIKWAX they said it should of worked, contact the clothing manufacturer. In other words your on your own with this product. Unless your absolutely sure that this will not harm your clothing I would not ever use it.

Comments about Nikwax TX-Direct 2.0 Wash-In Water Repellent Treatment - 34 oz.:
Used this stuff to try to treat an REI parka with REI Elements water repellance that i've had for about 10 years or so that has lost it's water resistance. After treatment, the water beaded up on first contact, but began to soak into the jacket not long after. Looks like the stuff doesn't work....

I washed my carhartt rain gear (1 coat and 1 pant)and my carhartt canvas coat in this stuff and followed the directions to the letter , directly after washing all 3 in nikwax tech-wash (I used a measured out water bottle courtesy of OHSU to measure both products), my canvas coat (which wasn't waterproof at all, in actuality was a better towel than a rain coat) now can carry water from my bathroom to my living room (a 15-20 foot walk) on it and I poured it out into a cup showing my friends how well this stuff works with minimal soak in. I filled my dogs waterbowl with the rain coats hood after standing with water in it a good minute, anyone looking to revive or waterproof a coat/pants get this stuff and tech wash. Follow the directions and you won't be disappointed

Comments about Nikwax TX-Direct 2.0 Wash-In Water Repellent Treatment - 34 oz.:
I've tried Nikwax TX direct wash-in twice on a textile motorcycling suit with poor results. On my second attempt, to be sure I gave it a fair trial, i also used their tech wash product and followed the instructions for use of both products exactly. I found no noticeable water repellency on the treated garment. Very disappointing.

Comments about Nikwax TX-Direct 2.0 Wash-In Water Repellent Treatment - 34 oz.:
I noticed I was getting wet more often in my old rain and snow gear. I decided to look into why and realized partly it was the washing soaps I'd used and then I wasn't retreating them with waterproofing either. Well, I should have known better.
I waterproof my snow and hiking boots every year, why wouldn't my jackets and such need retreating too?
I used to use spray on waterproofing products for my outerwear, but I hated the process - it took so long to do all my stuff and I hate the smell of them, not to mention how my hands felt after using them. My skin felt waterproofed too.
Then I found wash-in waterproofing. OMG, what a blessing! I've tried other brands too, but this one seems to be easier to find and works as well as the others. I just don't like the smell of any of them, tho this one seems to smell worse. I just have to air them out after they're done being treated.
Be sure to follow the directions on the bottle. Not all these wash-in products are done the same way.

Here's a confession… I used to scoff at the idea of having to re-treat my waterproof & windproof jackets, pants, hats, etc. I just figured the waterproofing was provided by a physical layer in the garments, and not from some magical chemical coating. Worse yet, I would even wash the aforementioned items using liquid laundry detergent! Later, whenever I wound up in the middle of a rain storm, I would wonder why I always got soaked despite wearing what was supposed to be world-class gear. I now know I was making huge mistakes in the way I was laundering my field clothes.
Recently, I rolled my eyes, gave in with a sigh, and started using this waterproofing product after first washing my field clothing with the proper cleaning agent made by the same company.
What a difference! My 10-year-old jacket now looks like its new! To my surprise, it looks absolutely great, and sheds water like an oilskin duster; same goes for all my other gear that I finally started treating. I'm now bone dry in the most severe rain. I've learned my lesson.
From now on, I'll be using this product on a regular basis. Best of all, it's easy to use.
