Comments about Solar Focus SolarDuo Charger:

Pros:1) Very good packaging for travel2) Robust designCons:1) I was not able to charge directly from sun, it was necessary for me to go through the batteries (charge batteries during the day, charge electronics at night).2) After fully charging (to the best of my knowledge, there is no great way to tell the charge on the batteries) the AA batteries that came with the device (2 NEXcell NiMH 1.2 V, 2300 mAh typical), I was able to charge only 15% (at best) of a Google G1 phone battery (3.7 V, 1100mAh)3) Next, I bought Duracell rechargeable NiMH batteries (1.2 V, 2650 mAh) and charged them fully. This did no better with the G1 and was only able to bring my Samsung beat (T539, 3.7V 800 mAh battery) from low battery to 2 bars of 3. Also, the Samsung beat would only charge when the phone was turned off (not typical)Overall:This product didn't do as well as I was hoping. It can definitely be used to charge AA NiMH batteries and it will give you SOME charge on your electronics, but it should be able to do better.

Comments about Solar Focus SolarDuo Charger:

I got good results with the Solar Focus SolarDuo. But it took some testing to figure it out. First, place some fresh AA batteries into the power pack. Then plug USB devices into it, to be sure you know how to charge them correctly. I prefer to plug in both ends of the cable, then flip the switch from solar charging to device charging. The blinking light will go from green to red. I was able to charge my ipod with no problems. When it came to my sony ericson cell phone, I had to put the phone into file transfer mode to get it to charge. I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't tested with fully charged AA batteries first.

I live in Taiwan and charged my batteries for 2 1/2 days, during overcast and rainy weather, with no direct sunlight. Charging my personal hand-held devices was no problem. That really impressed me.

        • Will not charge IPHONE

        Best Uses

        • Not for Iphones

Comments about Solar Focus SolarDuo Charger:

Although the literature claims this device will charge an ipod, it would not charge my iphone with the supplied NiHydride batteries which had been charged in a 110 volt charger. REI folks seemed to think that it would but it won't unless I have completely misread the rather obtuse ESL instructions.
