REI Members get back an estimated $8.00 on this item as part of their annual member refund.

The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

  • Updated molded grip features a more ergonomically shaped handle that provides greater comfort than the previous version; grip is over-molded with rubber for greater friction
  • Large index finger indent increases efficiency when pulling on the ascender
  • Chrome-plated, spring-loaded steel cam features angled teeth and a self-cleaning slot to securely grip the rope, even in wet, muddy or icy conditions
  • Cam has been refined to glide more easily along the rope, requiring less effort during long sessions of jugging
  • Open/close trigger is now recessed inside the ascender's frame to avoid accidentally opening the cam while in use; trigger can still be operated with 1 hand
  • Safety catch prevents the cam from opening too far, thereby keeping the rope captured
  • Includes multiple attachment points to allow for different uses, such as self-belaying or hauling
  • Anodized frame is color coded for easy identification; black ascender is for the left hand and gray is for the right
  • Designed for use with ropes between 8 and 13mm in diameter

by fromFun tool to have Now I'm not a very active climber but I bought one of these just to play around with and it works great. I plan getting the other handed one and try to find some serious overhangs where I can just ascend up them.

by fromAwesome Ascender!! I am a retired Firefighter and Tactical Ropes Instructor Level 3. I have used many Ascenders over the years and this is an easy to use effective and safe device. Easy on the hands and can be used easily with gloves on. This device is great for Climbing, Hauling Rigs and Self Belays. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great Ascension device.

by fromRight tool for thr Right job I bought this product for use as a self belay devise, I used it during a resent trip and it performed perfectly. It was easy to clear of ice and traveled to rope smoothly. As with any other Petzel product, it has lived up to my expectations

by fromExcellent Hand Ascender This thing is great! It's super easy to use and can be very versatile. I use this in conjunction with the Petzl - Croll to complete my "bullfrog" set-up for ascending out of caves. The hand grip is very comfortable and I enjoy the ergonomics of this hand ascender over the Black Diamond one.

by fromThe Standard These are the bomb. You can use prusiks if you're weight conscious, or pair one of these up with a croll or prusik, etc. But for long ascents, a pair of these is the best method for getting there quickly & safely. In 10 years, under every condition imaginable, I've never had one fail.

by fromWorked Perfect Used to clip into fixed lines. Felt very secure, moved well over the lines. Easy to move past knots or anchors. Could be lighter.

by fromA great piece in my slackline kit I'm using this to tension my slackline pulley / brake system. It's much better than pulling on rope with my hands and allows me to get a lot more energy into each pull. Much more effective than a tibloc and a hand-made rope grab.
