Comments about Chaco Leather Flip Flip-Flops - Men's:
DON'T BUY THIS SAD EXCUSE OF A FLIP FLOP. In fact don't buy any Chaco flip brand. I don't know about their Unaweep model as I've never worn them, but I can confidently say do NOT buy their flip flop (thong) model! First I bought their Chaco Flip (the polyester strap) because it was too good of a deal, half off the retail price, and to be honest I just fell in love with the style. It looks so cool. Plus I kept on hearing the name at climbing crag so... gave it a try. Golly the razor sharp, non-padded polyester strap of this first pair cut my upper right foot skin off. I thought, oh well, maybe it's just this model due to the nylon strap.
Then a week later the leather flip went on sale, also half off retail! I totally thought the leather would be better because, well, it's leather. I mean when I tried it, it fits oh-so-snug and heavenly. So I bought it and how I was WRONG!!!! The leather strap has stitching on the outside perimeter of the strap and it rubbed my left foot RAW!!! I was so mad. Now I can't wear ANY sandals at all while my foot is healing. My toes also ache due to the thick, pillar-like hard toe piece. I was disgusted. Chaco manufactures very high quality sandals but they should take a page out of Rainbow Sandal page in terms of comfort. Never have I owned a flip flop as bad as Chaco, and that's saying a lot. I have 5 pairs of Rainbows, 3 Sanuks, 2 Reefs, a Teva (I don't care much about Teva though) and now 2 Chacos, which are going to the trash very soon.
Here's my tip for breaking in this stupid leather flip: As soon as you get it BEFORE you wear them, twirl the straps together so that they become one tight knot, then force a 12oz beer bottle through the strap. Leave it a night or two. After that practice pulling on the straps hard, until the sandal bends. It won't break, but it will make the straps more supple and hopefully save your feet. Then use it to wash your car, get it wet and stretched further. Use it around the house before its big break. I wouldn't wear them on a long trip like I did before a period of break in.

Comments about Chaco Leather Flip Flip-Flops - Men's:
These are the most comfortable flip flops I own. I almost bought a pair of Olukais, but decided to go with the Chacos for their reputation. They were a bit pricey, but I think it's worth the cost especially for the comfort and style they offer.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical of these at first. They were stiff and the strap rubbed on the inside of my foot. I was tempted to take them back, but decided to keep them after reading the reviews.
After about a weeks worth of wear, the rubbing went away, the soles have started to mold my foot, and they still remain soft to the touch. I definitely recommend these but keep in mind that there's a break-in period. That period is probably different for everyone, and took about a week for me.

These flips are great! I wear them for everything I do. The first review is misleading because the pictures the guy took aren't even of this sandal. If you look closely you can easily see that he has a different model of Chaco leather flip. His may have been a problem, but the ones for sale here are awesome.

I also feel compelled to come to Chaco's defense on this product and average the rating out to a realistic figure - I own these sandals and they are PERFECT. The fit is incedible, the comfort of the footbeds and straps are amazing, and general they could not be better in any way (unless they were free). As far as the negative review goes, I can only say that any real footwear needs to be broken in. I own several pairs of the Chaco flips with webbing and of course the leather ones, and they all need time to break in / your feet need time to get used to them. However, once they make friends with your feet (about a week of casual wear) there is no substitute! If your feet are that sensitive to a new pair of shoes, don't wear them for a ten mile hike right out of the box. If your feet start bleeding before you break them in, you wore them for too long - take them off! If they remain that uncomfortable,[...]When I first starting wearing flips, I wore Tevas and they made my feet bleed just like that - I was an idiot and walked five miles in them the day I got them (and they wore out a week later). Your feet will toughen up - I get hot spots for the first two weeks of nice weather every year, doesn't matter what flips I wear. Don't blame the footwear for your lack of common sense - if you want your hand to stop hurting, stop hitting it with the hammer... Bottom line, Chaco products are excellent and these are no exception. My leather flips are my go-to footwear once the temp crests 65 degrees.

I needed to write this review just as a counterpart to the first one... I own these sandals and absolutely love them. They are the most comfortable yet functional (read: good for hiking, scrambling, biking, etc) flip flops I've ever owned.
Now, it is true that the straps rub your feet for the first few days... but this is my experience with ANY new pair of sandals. My regular Chacos did the same thing, and now I can't live without them. Just wear them on and off for a few days, and your feet will toughen up perfectly. Truly, these are incredibly comfortable, supportive, and useful sandals.
