Comments about Marmot Precip Cap - Men's:
This is an excellent waterproof baseball-style cap for hiking and general wear. I quite fervently *dislike* baseball caps but broke down and purchased this one to provide sun and rain protection to my shaved noggin while hiking and romping around outside. So far, the Precip Cap has made me very happy.
I've worn this in the rain without a hood on over it (light rain) and layered it underneath my Shuksan's hood in heavy rain (the brim stuck out an inch or so providing extra protection). And this afternoon, I discovered a great secondary use for the cap when I realized that I left my dog's collapsible water bowl at home. A few miles into our hike I pulled my cap off, turned it inside out, and poured my thirsty dog a fresh bowl of water (see photos below). Yes, I guess this is kind of gross (especially if you are not a dog person), but it definitely proves that the hat is waterproof and can be used for other things in a pinch.
One gripe: The rim around the base of the hat between the connection of the brim to just above my ears flares out away from my head a little. This makes the hat have a slight appearance of having "wings" rather than a snug fit all around. My head may be shaped a bit oddly (that certainly would explain A LOT of things...) but I think it has to do more with the design of the hat. The lining around the base stops around the back without being tensioned into the rear adjustment strap. If it were attached, the rear adjustment strap would pull the base lining back and into the head. As it is, with no tension, the lining sags slightly out. Not a huge issue, but probably something that would be easily remedied with a slight design change.
