For no good reason, I tend to shy away from traditional figure hugging cycle shorts (I don't really see the point in them other than they improve aerodynamics and I'm just a casual rider so this is not an issue for me).
These shorts have great padding, are comfortable and that's all I ask of a pair of shorts.

These short do not slide on my bike seat, unlike the Cannondale Baggy Bike Shorts I own.

I've been using the classic tight road shorts for years because I thought you had to if you did road biking. What a dope. I was always pulling them down because they'd be too tight in the crotch as well as cutting off circulation in my legs. Not long ago I switched to loose (baggy) bike shorts and the difference is fantastic. No more tightness and loss of circulation. Now my legs have more energy at the end of the ride. Should have done this years ago.

Very comfortable. Removable inner short has good padding. Dries quickly after washing. Definitely worth the money.

Soon it will be 95 degrees with 95% humidity, then we'll see how good they really are.

Not a bad combo...actually the padded form fitted shorts inside of these baggy exterior shorts are designed to be removed and can be worn under any pair of shorts. So really you're getting two pair of versatile shorts.

The padded lycra's have so far been comfortable under all of my shorts, work-out pants and sweats.

The shorts that you see in the picture can be worn whether biking or not and are fairly stylish compared to most bike oriented offerings.

I was surprised with how much I liked these shorts because I have a similar pair from Novara and one from Zoic (both also from rei), and now I wish I had discovered these first.

They are not restrictive at all, and are actually quite comfortable. The pockets are great, and big enough to keep stuff in while riding without worrying about anything falling out. They look good and seem to be made well.

My only complaint would be that I wish they had some way of securing the inner (padded) layer to the outer short (like some other brands do) because after riding for over an hour on a road bike I did have to pull the outer shorts up in the back several times, as they started to sag. I suppose this could be remedied by tying the drawstring tighter, but I didn't want to do that, and I would still like to see a way for both waistbands (inner and outer) to attach and stay that way.

Bottom line, though: I will be buying another pair.

I have only used these shorts four or five times, so I can't comment on their durability, but I can endorse their comfort. As others have pointed out, you can cut the inner "bike" shorts free of the outer casual shorts and use the inner shorts with other shorts/sweats/pants.

I wash and dry them with my other laundry and they come out looking and feeling like new, at least so far.

As a casual rider, I've only ridden 30 miles at a time with them, but they seem to hold the promise of retaining their comfort for longer rides.

Bear in mind that I am a 60 year-old retiree when you consider my opinion that they look pretty good.
