Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
DO not buy! The produt IS NOT "water resistant" and is very cheaply made. The tag is a gross misrepresentation of the product. Even when brand new it left me high and WET on the John Muir Trail in just a very light rain. We joked that it should be sold as a Hypotherima training jacket. Very serious about this...a $1 rain poncho would have been better. Note: Sierra Designs does not honor their warranties! I found this out after mailing it back to them (after instructed to do so because I was not near a REI at the time)....Thank God for REI

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
This is a very lightweight jacket and is great for stuffing in a pack on day hikes. It's quite warm and I've used it as an outer layer on top of a fleece on several cold days. The wind protection it offers is great.
That being said, I've been very disappointed with the jacket's performance in the rain. Granted, you stay drier with it on than you would without it, but this jacket can't handle even drizzle for more than a few minutes. Worse, as soon as it becomes saturated, it seems to loose all water-resistance and because it's not very breathable, you're left stewing in your own moist grossness. A water-proofing spray has helped some, but for the money, I recommend looking at alternatives.
I'm giving it three stars because it's lightweight, windproof, and comfortable. Just don't get caught out in the rain with it!

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
I like it because is is lightweight and convenient if you need something, but it won't keep all the rain off. I had on a lightweight nylon long-sleeved shirt under the jacket, and after a hike in the rain my arms were all wet, like the water was passing through the fabric of the jacket. I was definitely drier than I would have been without the jacket. The hood sticks forward to keep rain off my face, which is nice.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
I can't say enough good things about this jacket. I actually bought my first jacket a couple of years ago through the REI Outlet Store. I live in Southern California and I needed a jacket that wasn't too heavy. My heavy jackets that I had in Colorado just won't work is this climate. I got it big enough to go over my fleece jacket to use as a windbreaker if need be. I am an avid hiker and use it to keep the sun off of me on warm days, work great. Works also great at the beach too.
I somehow got a stain on the jacket that I couldn't get out. I lived with it until I accidentally left my jacket on the couch with a doggy cookie in the inter pocket. My dog found the cookie but not before ripping a whole in the outer shell pocket and shedding the inter shell lining pocket. That is what made me finally find a replacement for my old jacket, and was tickled that REI still carries it after all these years.
So without any hesitation I bought three more in different colors since this is the jacket of choice for my Southern California living.
Still have the old jacket, great to use in the yard, pulling the weeds keeping off the hot sun!!

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
I love this jacket and can't wait to get one in another color. I won't run without it! It has always kept me warm and dry. I do wear an under armour shirt underneath when it gets below 40 degrees, but by the time I am done running I am way too hot. You could get something way more heavy duty but I love how thin and comfortable it is. And the price is great!

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
The jacket is super lightweight and packable, great for throwing in your pack or purse just in-case. But it is not very breathable and the seams are not taped so it's not waterproof either. Also the hood design is severely lacking any sort of rear cinching mechanism. So the hood is not functional either. More of a windbreaker than a rain jacket. All-in-all not what I was looking for.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Women's:
PROS: This jacket is great for the lightweight summer backpacker! I love that it is lightweight & makes for a great windbreaker & keeps mosquitoes off me. I can wear warm clothes underneath & this jacket over the top. The best part is I don't have to bring a more expensive & heavy jacket backpacking. The jacket also stuffs into a tiny little sack, a plus. If it does get wet then hang it out to dry, it dries quickly.
CONS: Not waterproof, but just buy a cheap waterproof poncho & you are set.
NOTE: I have used this jacket on 2 backpacking trips already in the last 2 years & it still looks new. My sister borrowed it on her backpacking trip & wanted one herself.
