For those that like to earn their turns in the backcountry, REI Double Diamond pack offers technical functionality and hydration compatibility.

  • Zippered backpanel entry lets you access your gear and hydration system while keeping the backpanel dry and free of snow
  • Top lid pocket can hold snow-study tools and small items; outside of pocket features a bungee system for lashing on climbing skins or extra clothing
  • Flip back the top lid to access main compartment with room for safety essentials, food and extra layers
  • Inside the main compartment you'll find a clear accessory pocket and a tool sleeve for a probe or snow saw
  • Front pleated outside pocket is sized for a shovel and other avalanche gear, and can be used as a stash pocket for climbing skins
  • Exterior sleeve stores shovel handle, and a loop keeps your ice axe secure
  • Snow-resistant rip-and-stick closure is used on the front flap opening
  • Zippered hydration pocket is designed to accept most hydration reservoirs, sold separately
  • Insulated sleeve on shoulder strap stores the hydration hose to help prevent freeze-up and is large enough to accommodate right angle shut-off valves
  • Safety whistle is integrated into the sleeve's zipper pull
  • Diagonal or traditional A-frame ski-carrying system accommodates wide skis and bulky bindings
  • Aluminum rod frame provides structure and ergonomically sculpted shoulder straps enhance the fit
  • Backpanel material sheds snow and dries quickly

    Comments about REI Double Diamond Ski Pack:

    I really like this pack for BC skiing. It's just the right capacity for day trips. It has a good ski carry system for diagonal or A frame, it carries an ice axe, and it has great compartments for a probe and snow saw. I particularly like the shovel pocket - it holds a fairly large shovel blade with enough room to put my skins in it on the downhill. The pack carries close to your back and feels very stable while skiing downhill. I do wish the waist belt pockets were a little bigger (my digicam won't fit) but they are great for snacks and my compass and inclinometer. A great pack, especially for the price as compared to offerings from Black Diamond and Osprey. Note that it will not carry a snowboard - this is a ski pack.

      I have used the product on a number of backcountry snowshoeing trips and am very impressed with the backpack. Perfect capacity for a day trip, convenient map compartment and easy access to shovel. Really enjoy the sealed camelback tube/nozzel, did not freeze even at -15F. The belt pockets are great for food and compass, would like them a little bigger.....but hey can't have everything. Anyone doing backcountry skiing or snowshoeing should strongly consider this pack.
