Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
This jacket is awesome and is probably the warmest item of clothing I own, per ounce. I say "per ounce" because you should consider how much this jacket weighs and not expect miracles. It weighs 11 or so ounces and there *are* limits to the performance of such a garment.
In my opinion, this is the perfect 3 season backpacking jacket to keep you warm at camp. It's not a hiking jacket as it's not terribly breathable and compressed and/or wet down doesn't insulate so if you get sweaty (on your back for example) the jacket will be useless. Use a fleece or a thicker baselayer if you're going to hike in cold conditions.
To give an idea of warmth, I'm a fairly warm bodied male and will wear this in temperatures down to 35/40 degrees with a Patagonia Capilene 4 baselayer, which is the warmest baselayer they sell. Below that and you'll need to be hopping around to keep warm, or put on additional layers like a hard shell to keep the warmth in.
It's also not terribly durable, which again is expected given the weight of the garment. So if you get too close the fire you'll probably eventually burn a little hole in it. REI sells a really nice nylon patch kit that's like a very strong scotch tape and that has worked perfectly to cover the little hole I got. I was mortified when it happened, but 10 minutes of deep sobbing really got it out of me and I was a new man. Party on.

I use this for early spring and late fall backpacking (say, 30 - 50 degrees), mostly to wear in camp in the evenings - but it also comes out for lunch and any other pack-off break. I've also got the hooded version that I use when it drops to about 20 degrees. Both are also great to wear inside my sleeping bag, adding about 5 degrees of range (thereby giving me a safety margin). I've taken to wearing this sweater so often that my wife now says I'm like the grandkids and have to have my "woobie." You can have this jacket when you pry it from my cold - oh, wait, it doesn't let me get cold.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
I bought this jacket over 2 years ago and I wear it a lot. I live in the mountains and winter is already here by mid October and can stick around into June. It packs up to the size of a grapefruit, so it is perfect for taking on planes, or keeping it in the car.
The one bad thing, it rips way too easily. I knew it wasn't bullet proof so I don't abuse it (no cats or dogs are allowed near it). I made the mistake of taking it through sagebrush once. It never ripped that bad, the ripstop does work.
Patagonia replaced this jacket a year ago because of holes. A month later it had holes.... hopefully they replace it again.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
I recently bought this jacket to take with me on an early Fall trip to the Wind River Range in Wyoming. I wanted something very lightweight, yet at the same time something that would keep me warm. I was initially concerned about how light this jacket was and if in fact it would keep me warm if it got really cold. Well, we had two days of intermittent snow, and night time temps for the entire week long trip was in the 20's & 30's. The jacket more than met my expectations for the trip and was in deed very warm. Just make sure you have a good outer shell to put on over the jacket in case you get rain or wet snow. Overall I was very impressed with how the jacket held up.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
I got this jacket as a gift and at the time I was a bit turned off by the look but decided to use it as one of my layers on Kili anyway. The weight and packability of this made it an excellent mid-layer and it really won me over on summit day. The jacket fit easily over my fleece and under my coat and weighs next to nothing.
Now that I'm back in the city, I find myself reaching for this jacket a lot. I find that it's perfect for the cool days we've been having here in Seattle and it saves me from bringing out my heavy coats. I'm still not a fan of the look but this jacket fills a niche in my outwear that I didn't know I had.

The large was too big in the chest and stomach and the medium was too small in the shoulders. Patagonia should make this coat in a slim option for lean people.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
I love Patagonia products, and find that their durability, comfort, style, and functionality are well worth their inflated prices. I was disappointed by this jacket, because I really WANTED it to work out. Yes, it is warm for its light weight and small pack-down size. But ultimately I returned it in favor of the Marmot Zeus Jacket.I found that the Patagonia sweater didn't fit me well - I am 6'1" and 175 pounds, and it is just too bulky, and it is rather unattractive. It isn't warm enough to merit using in cold situations in the outdoors - you are better off going with the Marmot, which is a better value at[$] It is warmer, and while you pay for this slightly in weight and bulk, it is simply a more versatile garment. I would bring the Marmot Zeus with me back packing and climbing but also wear it around town.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
This is a great jacket and you can rely on unbeatable quality from Patagonia. But the potential buyer must know that this is not a stand-alone piece for really cold weather. According to Patagonia, it's really designed for cool but not freezing weather.
However, under a shell, this would be a solid choice. It's not all that puffy so it would fit nicely. Personally, I like the Patagonia Down Jacket. It has a more classic design and is definitely warmer but you do sacrifice weight--the Down Sweater is a really lightweight piece. In that regard, this is an excellent jacket. You can take it with you anywhere you go and not have it be a liability.
Also, I'm not a fan of the narrower quilting that the Down Sweater has; wider quilting has a more rugged, classic look. But this is a jacket that will last a long time as Patagonia takes pride in the design and durability of their gear.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:
Right now I'm living in Wisconsin for grad school, and this jackets makes the winters a little more bearable. As for weight and compressible it is amazing light and packable. And I would whole heartily recommend this jacket for any one who is dealing with cold to very cold environments and needs a jacket that can be easily packed away when not needed during a trek.
I can't speak to the durability all that much, since I have only had the jacket for less than a year but the quaility look typical for Patagonia's technical gear and I feel this jacket will last for a long time.
