Comments about Ortlieb Messenger Bag:
This thing is basically a huge, waterproof sack; it has only a single cavernous compartment. I use it for hauling bulky loads, like groceries, and it will carry more than I care to put on my back. Stiff, closed-cell foam pads spaced evenly on the back provide adequate ventilation in warm weather and prevent any sharp objects inside the pack from causing discomfort. A wide waist belt, well-padded shoulder straps and and adjustable sternum strap hold the pack securely on your back.
As far as construction goes, this pack seems about as bullet proof as they come.
The only drawback that I can see is the shear size of the pack. It will feel quite bulky on small-framed people. I only use it when I have large loads to carry, the rest of the time I use a smaller pack. For the same reason, I would not use it for anything other than short trips or running errands.

Comments about Ortlieb Messenger Bag:
I've used at least eight bags for my 15 mile daily commute. This is the very best; even over Chrome. It is amazingly lightweight, remains positioned well on your back, and is cavernous in size. Consider getting yourself smaller bags to put delicate electronics like your iPod, phone, etc. inside the bag; else, it will likely get lost and or damaged shifting around during rides.
I am able to pack dress clothes for work, shoes, MacBook, and miscellaneous items with room to spare. Again, things shift easily because there are no compartments inside the bag so learn to pack tightly.
Two things I do not like about the bag; the waist strap will not remain tight during rides and has a tendency to rub jersey at the mid-abdomen and there is no loop to fix a rear light on the bag.
Overall, this bag is fantastic and is very versatile.

Comments about Ortlieb Messenger Bag:
I ride 13 miles each way to work through Chicago city streets. I like that the orange version of this bag is incredibly visible. The bag is also completely waterproof. I've ridden home in pouring rain and carry papers in the bag and they never get wet. The bag is very large which some people may not like, but I can hold all of my tools/spare tubes, my papers, and work clothes with no problem.
My only con is that the waist straps dont hold their tension very well when bent over on a road bike. The waist straps do a lot more good when you are standing upright.

Comments about Ortlieb Messenger Bag:
I use my bag almost daily as I wear it riding to and from work a 6 mile ride each way. I also dont have a problem with wearing it even if I dont have a huge load to haul around as mine is yellow and helps me be seen by traffic. Some may call it slightly obnoxious in size and color but I think its perfect to carry books, a change of clothes, netbook, and quick bike fixes.
