Comments about Tubus Disco Bike Rack:
I bought one of these to use with my mountain bike because it was the only one I could find to use when I lived in Paris, France. I had the impression that tubus were good products and boasted a 10 year warranty (so much for that!)My Tubus Disco lasted for about a week until I had an accident and my bike fell over (my weight was not on the bike) and one rack arm got bent and cut into my tyre leaving me stuck in the middle of nowhere with a slash in my tyre. Upon returning to Paris I tried to email tubus to request a replacement carrier, but was turned down because it only covers "normal" use. The avarage wall-thickness is only about 0,5 millimeter (0,02 inches) making the carriers very lightweight, but not sturdy nor robust as they claim to be. To quote [...]: "In a nutshell, our carriers are made for normal use, also rough use and overloading, but they are not good in accidents."[...]

Comments about Tubus Disco Bike Rack:
I've purchased Tubus racks before, and they are certainly more expensive than most other racks, but the design of this rack won me over.
For starters, it's disc brake compatible: most bikes with disc brakes won't accept conventional racks because the eyelets usually used for mounting racks are obscured by the brake mounting location. Since this goes through the hub using the quick release skewer, brake choice is a non-issue.
Secondly, it accepts either a 130mm or 135mm outer locknut diameter (OLD) using an included spacer, so it's usuable on most road and mountain hubs. Again, many frame mounted racks will give you trouble as the spacing at the eyelets/dropouts increases.
Another reviewer notes that they've had trouble with the Tubus warranty. I've made one claim on a different model with no issues. Combined with REI's generous returns policy, I'd imagine the other reviewer's situation in Paris isn't likely stateside.
Lastly, I love the articulated connection to the seatstays. It's clever, easy to remove/install and easy to adjust. One hex wrench and you're done- no need for clumsy box wrenches to hold locking nuts like you'll find on many of the other cheaper racks.
