I purchased this bag in a REI store on a whim. It has served me great so far. I love the urban look and the eco-friendly design. It holds everything my REI laptop backpack did and looks better to boot!

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

We bought this bag in anticipation of a four week overseas trip. Unfortunately, the strap failed within 24 hours of the bag's first use.(Naturally, the failure occurred just as we were deplaning after a 16 hour flight. Not a pretty sight.)

The strap is made of two materials: a padded nylon portion that is attached to a nylon webbing portion. The attachment of the two materials failed. Upon inspection, it appears that the two materials were joined by nothing more than glue.

Stay away from this bag--far, far away.

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

The strap on this bag is enough reason to return it. Very uncomfortable. The zipper pull on the back broke off before I even left the store. I liked the magnetic latch on the front, but that is it. The cell phone pocket is on the wrong side for a right handed person and isn't adjustable. And the velcro part for that was already coming off. I had the bag for a week and couldn't wait to get back to town to return it.

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

The shoulder strap is stitched together in the middle. The stitching began to pull apart after just a few weeks of use and was about 25% unraveled when I returned it. Other stitching where the strap attaches to the bag began to disintegrate as well. I replaced it with a Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 Large with a lifetime warranty.

          Service and delivery comments:

I purchased this from my local REI store and returned it as soon as the problems appeared.

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

This is a great bag. This bag is extremely spacious and holds a lot of stuff. I tend to load it down so sometimes it's heavy, to heavy to carry but I'm a pack rat. It's kind of hard to open but it will deter a thief, I don't need to worry about my wallet or anything else being stolen or falling out. There have been times when I have forgotten to zip the front pocket where I keep my wallet, loose papers, bank card, check book, etc and the amazing thing is that nothing fell out of the pocket because the bag also has a magnetic flap. The shoulder strap is comfortable I would have preferred it in black but it's still a keeper.

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

I love the look and feel of this bag. Unlike other users, after months of use, I have had no issues with the straps or compartments... except the water bottle compartments. They is deceptively shallow, and have no means of cinching the bottle or keeping it close. I am the type of person who always likes to have a bottle with me, but this bag holds no more than a 500ml disposable bottle, and even those tend to topple out if you aren't careful. I broke my favorite Nalgene when the bottle went flying from the bag in the middle of an airport terminal as I was walking to the gate.

Water bottle usage aside, I love the look and feel of this bag. There are ample compartments for papers, laptop, headphones, etc. The fact that it's waterproof, but a little less industrial-looking than the Timbuk2's is also very nice. If you don't mind throwing your bottle in the bag, or don't carry water, I would recommend this product. If you do want easy access to your water bottle, keep looking!

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

I should have read the reviews. I bought this bag a few months ago and I've used it extensively, for work and international travel, and after gradual frustration with the ergonomics, ended up buying the Osprey Astro instead.

Pros: I haven't had quality problems, unlike others. its a good looking bag, IMO, which honestly is one of the reasons I bought it. Its fairly roomy as well.

Cons: The major problem I have is access. Mine doesn't have a magnet closure that I can identify, nor any velcro. The only open/close mechanism is a zipper that, due to the odd shape of opening, is kind of awkward to use. If you don't use this zipper, the default state of the bag is open; no velcro to close the front flap. The opening itself makes it awkward to get a laptop in/out.

The front zipper is also kind of awkward, and the front storage pockets aren't that useful. The straps extend into the side pockets, limiting their usefulness.

I wouldn't buy this again. As above, the Osprey Astro is much more comfortable and ergonomic.

Comments about Keen Alameda 15 Computer Bag:

Great bag, but the magnetic connection point is a concern for me. I may be a little paranoid, but I don't want magnets anywhere near my hard drive, so I cut the magnets out :-) A "hooks and loops" connection point would be an improvement!
