I've been hiking for over half my life. As you can imagine, I have gone through many pairs of boots, many kinds and brands. However, my only experience with Keen was through their sandals. 5 years ago I bought my first pair of hiking boots. It was the Voyageur on olive. It was a purchase based on looks. That green olive color with the yellow touch was irresistible to me at that time. When i bought them, I was not shopping for boots. I live in southern California. The first hike was a 6 pulse mile loop (bear canyon loop) and they proved to be extremely comfortable. They become my go to boot for everything. I have taken them waterfall hunting on off trail terrain, rocky, sandy, muddy, I mean everything southern California has to throw at them. Traction on wet situations is a bit compromised. But it is something I don't have to worry about much. But if you have to climb around wet boulders, it may be something you may want to keep in mind. The rubber toe bumper is one of my favor factors. During these five years I have walked over 600 miles with those boots and they are still going. I mean they have taken a good bitting and in a way I'm afraid that they will fall apart during a big hike. But, after 5 years they are still going strong. I read reviews where they talk about the plastic lacing hook braking. But in my experience they have held and performed well. During this last year tho the soles started to peeled apart in some places. Also I lost a little chunk of sole on the side by climbing sharp boulders. But it is an amazing boot performance considering that they are 5 years old. I never had boots that last me that long. I had to buy boots every 6 to 12 months. I have purchased a replacement. But, I haven’t have the chance to use them yet. Since this ones still going. They are the perfect boot for anything in southern California and hot weather. They are not waterproof but they are super fresh. They are worth every single penny. All this pictures i’ll be uploading are after five years of use.
Sole has dettached on both boots, just a little over 1 yr old. . Never hiked or worked in just normal " shoe " use . . . I have been buying Keens for ys as my foot is flat and wide. Keen are 1 of the few boots my foot bottoms are comfortable in. . I may have to begin looking at done competitor brands ic this is goingvto be the new norm w/ keens. . I attached photos so the condition of the boot exterior and sole wear can be seen. . . .
When I went shopping for boots I didn't want to go too cheap and found these. When I put them on, it was heaven. I have a wide foot and they seemed to be a bit wider than other boots which is great by me. After logging about 12 hours in and out of a creek bed hike. When I got home, the left shoe's fabric was seperated from the rubber sole. I found it a bit odd that it was in that poor condition. I took it back to REI and they made me get glue goop but I doubt that will fair any better. Bottom line, I love the fit and feel but the quality doesn't seem to be there. You might have better luck but I'm goin to go back to get a bit better quality ones.
Very comfortable boots so far.I have only had them for a few weeks and I'm still breaking them in. Something that I noticed that I hadn't seen mentioned is the fact that the top hook eyelet is so close to the top of the boot that my laces will work their way over the top of and behind the tongue after just a short amount of walking. I had to reverse the direction that I lace the top eyelet, so that I am coming over the top and hooking it backwards and down to keep this form happening. It has helped, but I haven't taken them on a serious hike since starting this practice. Other than that they are a solid boot so far.
I used this product to go canoeing in BWCAW and Quetico Wilderness. They do not last long on vigorous trips and are not built to last as long as they should.
I purchased these as a gift when I was in the US but after 3 uses walking around town, the sole between the ground and toe cracked. Now we're stuck with a pair of boots that if we try to glue the crack to keep them waterproof and useable, the warranty will be void,or we can hold onto them until we return to the US in January but buy something else to use in the meantime. All and all, not the quality product expected. keep in mind: Keen's in general run a half size small, knowing this they fit perfectly, but if you are looking at Keens that has been my experience in the 4 pairs I've bought. (this pair was a gift but fit the recipient perfectly)
The reviews for this boot from 2013 and prior weren't encouraging. However, I didn't find any bad 2014 reviews. With REI's great return policy as a backup, I bought a pair. They fit perfectly right from the start. I did a hike the next day and they were everything I hoped for. I have hiked a total of 56 miles in them so far, on very rocky trails with long sections of loose rocks, with large rocks in between that must be negotiated. Many rocks are embedded with sharp, slanting points. I can step on these and not feel a thing. The soles and uppers are as intact as the day I bought it. These are real winners and at a reasonable price.
I wore these on one hike this summer in the Sierras. From North Lake to South lake along the JMT. The soles are not bonded well and started coming apart on both boots, at the same places, after only 30 miles. This has been reported in previous reviews, but not addressed by Keen. I will be returning them for full credit. REI should tell Keen to fix the problem or stop carrying their shoes.
so, i wrote a previous review about how awesome these boots are, which must've jinxed me. shortly after, i started having the same problem as others with the glue coming undone(on a minor scale, unaffecting usability). on the flipside, the folks at keen customer service had me fill out a warranty form on thier website, and within a week, i had a coupon code worth the cost of the boots that was good for anything on thier site. thanks keen, you are on my short-list of good customer service companies
I really like these boots. Great fit and comfortable. However my previous pair had issues with the sole section separating from the boot part. I thought just maybe the manufacturer would by now have resolved this issue. Apparently not because this 2nd pair of brand new boots with only 2 hikes under the feet are starting to do the same. I want to buy a pair of boots for comfort and fit but please fix the issue with sole separation. Should be one molded bottom not 2 pieces glued together. Not expecting this for little use. 2 hikes... 3days 2 nights 30miles and a 2day 1 night 38miler. So under 70 miles and just checked them... Same issue starting again. Thanks REI for asking me to review otherwise I may not have looked at the boot bottom.
