Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
Beware, after use in cold temps, the 1.5 L (group) pot lid doesn't fit back on. The plastic is affected and shrinks. This was annoying. One would think they could at least supply a bag for the pot system. Otherwise, the system will be loose or come apart in your pack.
JetBoil could do much better with their lid and base cover designs, in my opinion.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
We purchased four Jetboil systems for a 14-day group trip to Iceland. All four stoves survived and got the job done, but some just barely.
First: the burner itself is not very compact. It is enclosed in rather bulky plastic, which takes up space and doesn't really contribute all that much to the stability of the system. It does not help that the burner consists of two parts, the actual burner and a metal stand for the pot. The two tend to separate at the worst possible moments.
Second: the built-in piezo igniter failed on tree of four stoves within two weeks.
Third, even with the attached plastic base the system is rather unstable. As an aside the plastic base is really hard to attach to every fuel cartridge we ran across on our trip.
So, the burner part is definitely overrated. It boils water, but so do many others.
What sets the stove apart from the rest is it's cook pot. It is made from aluminum (with some coating on the inside, which works welll), has a heat exchanger on the base of the pot and a neoprene cozy which reduces heat loss while cooking your food. As a result food cooks very quickly and fuel consumption is low. The pot comes with a plastic lid as well as a plastic cap that protects the heat exchanger. Both are black and don't fit all that well, especially the lid, which is rather tight fitting and a pain to attach in cold weather. Two groups ended up melting their bottom cap because the black plastic is rather inconspicuous in the dark. The plastic lid saves weight, but never looks very clean, so one is reluctant to use it as a bowl or plate, and cannot double as a frying pan.
So, I would buy the pot alone, and use it on my old stove.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
I've had the GCS since it was introduced. Have used it to around freezing and to ~ 12,000 ft. It has never failed. It lights easily with the attached lighter. It boils water fairly quickly and is decently stable. Gas use seems pretty good. It's not the best in the wind, since there's no guard, but I've had no difficulty as long as it's kept somewhat sheltered.
The problem is the top. The more I use it, the worse it fits. At normal temps, it will not stay on the pot, so the contents fall out or rattle around. In use, if I can get it to close over the pot, it's so tight that it blows off as it heats up. Argh...
Jetboil, please provide an alternative top. Lexan would be nice.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
This is very unstable especially if whatever you're cooking needs stirred. I used it once or twice and put in on the shelf.
I bought it because I like the Jetboil PCS for boiling water but this is just poorly designed. The new Jetboil Helios looks like even Jetboil agrees that the Group Camping System was a mistake. I'm going to give the Helios a try.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
I bought this product with high hopes after reading several reviews. Very disappointing. The ignitor broke after 2 uses. The cheap plastic base that holds the gas canister broke after 6 uses. The lid on top of the pot doesn't fit well, and will come off in your pack.
Overall, I would go with a minimalist set like and MSR if I did it again.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
Replaced my old super fly and titanium cook set with this beauty. The pot is large enough for all my needs from frying, boiling to stewing. The lid, when inverted, is solid when cooking. The plastic flex protector is a nice little plate. I place a handkerchief inside the pot, then put all the stove, fuel, pot stand for pot, and my coffee making mesh kit plus a lighter. It is a bit heavier than my Jet Boil personal but not that much.
Over all I am very content with the unit and have used it for the last year with no issue. The Piezo however was a sore point. It was not consistent and the ceramic broke but that was due to me fiddling with it. The Piezo would not ignite the fuel consistently. The fix was easy, after I disassembled the unit to put on the replacement I took the end of the Piezo and snipped it to a point (got the idea from my old Super Fly stove - thank you MSR). Now it ignites the fuel every time I need it - problem fixed.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
Used it one summer for boiling water and worked OK, it got the job done and was easy to light. Used it this fall at 10,800 ft in October in the Rockies for boiling water and it took 15 minutes for the water to boil and I had to hand light it 3 times because a 5 MPH wind kept blowing the flame out.
My guess is that JetBoil didn't figure ACTUAL situations this system might be used in, unless sitting back in your lawn chair in mid-summer and cooking on your front lawn with no wind @ 70 degrees in what most people use this stove for.
If you plan on backpacking from September - April in an outdoor environment than this isn't the product for you. It works when it's warm out, this is a fair weather stove period.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
On a recent weeklong trip to Alaska, temperatures ranging from 40-60 F, elevations from 2500-5500 ft, low wind stove would not light and the fire continuously went out, even with a wind screen. Others in the group using the PCS did not experience such problems. Ultimately I had to prepare all my meals on someone else's stove.
I got to use the stove once indoors w/ no wind around 60F temperature, and it performed marvelously. Clearly a very sensitive piece of equipment that you cannot bring along to even moderately challenging conditions.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
I bought this stove brand new last year just for our trip to California's SeKi for 8 days backpacking trip. The stove was very efficient and light weight just as it was advertised. It used half as much fuel than what I used to carry with me for the Primus TechnoTrail stove I had since college. We were over 10,000 feet most of the nights and it boiled like a champ even when the temperature was down in the 50's. It boiled water very fast, but that's about it for me. My wife and I usually enjoyed cooking more than just ramen or freeze dried food. With this stove, we burnt all our pancake or fried bread. The hot spot makes it really hard to control to cook anything else other than soups. The flux ring prevent you from moving the pot around to reduce the hot spot when making pancakes. The piezo was hard to operate, and failed to start the stove half the time. My biggest pet peeve for this stove was the pot stand on top of the burner. It was just a small poorly design stainless steel ring with three prongs that would just sit on top of the burner not locking in to anything. It would get stuck on the heat exchanger of the pot and popped out of the burner when you lift the pot. To put it back, you better have a multitool with a plier to put this thing back because it would be hot. Half way through our trip, one of the prong on this stand quit pivoting like what it was designed to do. We had to fight it with our multitool. I ended up just gave up and shoved it somewhere else. The design of the stove had the center of gravity up high, which makes the stove unstable. I gave this stove a three star of efficiency, light weightness, and very innovative design. This stove need some fine tuning to hit the right mark. I knew that JetBoil didn't originally came up with this group stove, but it was from customer requests. They could have put some more thoughts into this stove before they released it.

Comments about Jetboil Group Cooking System:
This stove has completely changed the way I eat in the backwoods. Instead of bringing each individual ingredient in a baggy. I make most of my food at home, seal it in a plastic bag, then just boil the bag on the trail. This has really cut down on food mess, smell and preparation time. It does take up more space in a pack but it is most certainly worth it.
It has very quick and efficient boiling time and has been great for heavier foods like beef stew and pasta. I have also used it at home as a warmer for small buffet items.
