      Comments about ENO SlapStraps:

The material used in this product in incredibly stretchy. I only used them once and woke up touching the ground three times that night. Do yourself a favor and buy two 12' hanks of 1" military spec webbing and learn to tie a couple knots. The webbing is considerably stronger, without flex and lighter to boot.

        Comments about ENO SlapStraps:

I love these. easy to set-up, compact (enough), and I keep it in my truck at all times. Sometimes it's slow at work and I need a nap, or more importantly, I can do my work from my hammock outside that I can put up in less than 5 minutes. This has made my productivity increase believe it or not.
        Also, great for Kayak Camping.

        Comments about ENO SlapStraps:

Have set it up 3 times for over-nighters with ENO Single Nest since purchase in June. The only time my butt was not on the ground at 2am was when I set up my hammock at chest height and straight. Still sagged 2 feet. Way too much stretch.

The set up was easy and impressive though. My first time I even out-thunk myself and realized how easy these things were to use.

I'd use it for day time use only.

              Comments about ENO SlapStraps:

First thing I've returned to REI.

These straps are very convenient, pretty well thought out, but have two major design flaws that caused me to return them.

First, the pre-sewn loops, while convenient, always seem to be 3-4 inches away from ideal. Which ordinarily wouldn't be a problem except...

Issue two - stretch. These straps stretch like crazy under load. I'd guess the hammock dropped 20-25 inches under load stretch. Tested both the hammock and straps for stretch, and its the straps.

In fact, I tried pitching the hammock nearly horizontally taught, pulling as hard as I could to set the carabiners and still the hammock sagged nearly 2 feet under load.

Returned them and swapped out for webbing straps and problem was solved.

              Good idea ENO, wrong material.

                Comments about ENO SlapStraps:

The idea behind the design of these straps is wonderful...BUT...unfortunately they stretch like crazy!!!!

If you plan on putting anything in the hammock and use these straps, you'll need to adjust them a few hours later to account for the stretching. Also, they don't stay stretched out!!! Once you remove the load, the straps will revert back to their original length. Think RUBBER BANDS!!!

I really hope eno will re-evaluate the material choice to something that doesn't stretch.

                Comments about ENO SlapStraps:

Slap straps are for people who want to conveniently hang a typical camping hammock. And that they do with ease. but thats it.

                the good.

they are easy. they make sense just from looking at them so anybody can use them and they dont have to put much thought into their use. You dont have to learn a bunch about suspension to make these work, you can just look loop and clip, easy. If someone uneducated on it tried to use my ultralight suspension they would be confused at best and hurt them selves at worst, so Easy can sometimes be worth the space that these take up.

I like that ENO is promoting webbing straps instead of rope like other companies, rope IS bad for trees so it is nice that ENO is pushing people to use webbing instead, GO ENO.

They do what they are supposed to do and are relatively portable.

                the bad

the prostraps are just as good as the slap straps. though some people may be worried and want the extra weight allowance of the slap straps.

both kinds of straps are bulky as hell compaired to advanced Hammock camping suspensions and tree straps. Even the huge rope biner tree strap suspension I have on my DoubleNest now is smaller and more portable than either of the eno straps

Another product out there python straps is an improvement on both kinds of straps takes about the same space as the pro straps has the same strength and has tons and tons more loops to adjust your hammock with.

The slap straps or the pro straps are not perfect suspensions, but they are decent beginner suspensions. I used these straps on many a trip and kept me in the tree long enough to keep my interest up to be willing to learn some better methods. So while I dont plan on using these kinds of straps any longer I think highly of them and would recommend them to beginner hammockers.

My sister has slap straps and i used them for a month or two but when i bought my own hammock instead of slap straps, i got 2 12 foot sections of rope and i works much better. It makes it so you can make your hammock as tight/loose as you want to. Plus, the ropes, for all 24 feet, were only eight dollars!

I bought the slap strap pro set (not at REI) and found them to be super stretchy and pretty much unusable. I would string my hammock tight and about 5 feed off the ground. When I sat in it each strap would stretch over 5 inches in length (crude measuring system) and my bottom would barely be off the ground. I thought the stretch would lessen after some use but after a weekend I returned them as it was still bad. Great overall design. They just need some better webbing.
