Leaks
I have three (two clear and one green) of these bottles. They were bought on sale for their capacity and design. Their best use is when they lay in a cooler in the car since they *all* leak to varying degrees. I even close them real tight (which also makes it hard to open them later) but if they lay sideways for some time the bottles leak. They leaked in the backpacks and in the car as well. Also, the bottle width makes it difficult to carry in some backpack pockets. The little sip lids are hard to remove for cleaning - I have to pry them open with the back of a metal spoon or like. Poor.
Good for casual use...ONLY!
I have used this bottle daily for the past 6 months with a few problems, but not enough to throw it out. Unfortunatly, the bottle is too wide to fit into the automobile cup holders in my vehicles. Yet, the bottle holds enough water to get me through a day of school or a casual walk. I would not suggest using this bottle for anything but casual use as it does not travel well. Fill it up with ice and water and the removable insert keeps the ice in the bottle while drinking, just keep from leaving it out in the heat or cold as it does not keep the liquid the same temperature very well.
loose lids
I have to agree with most of the previous reviewers, I have two of these because they were so cheap and i wanted to bring a few extra along on a group trip in yosemite. They leak very easily, it's annoying especially if you're using them to cart your water supply inside a big pack. I also noticed that if i attached the bottle via a carabiner through the lid loop and hung it from my pack, the vibration and tension on the lid was enough to make the lid come loose and leak, something that never happens when i hang my nalgene bottle that way. I also had a winter camping trip where, suspecting they would leak, i set them upright, but the water froze and forced the lids to unscrew about halfway, eventually leading to another leak. if the lids can be replaced with nalgene lids to fix this problem, i'd keep using them.
So far, so good.
I bought a couple of these because they were on sale for [$]. After reading all of these reviews, I filled the bottles, left them upside down, on their sides, and banged them around trying to get them to leak. Maybe I just got lucky, but so far I haven't had any leaks. I want to use them for backpacking, but am sceptical as to how well they'll hold up. Anyone else have good luck with replacing the lids with Nalgene ones?
own 2 and love them both
I was surprised by all of the problems that others have had. I love my bottle and use it every day when I go to workout. It lays on its side in my bag and has never spilled on anything except the one time that I forgot to close it all of the way. I think the design is nice, but it's not very functional for backpacking.
Leaks like a sieve!
I bought two of these for my nieces for gifts and filled them with goodies. Unfortunately they both told me that they leaked! And more unfortunately they leaked all over their books and homework in their backpack. Don't buy this product. Buy Nalgene. I own plenty of these and have never had a problem.
Nice design, but leaks.
Good price, nice ergonomic shape (a little broad at the bottom for packs), but the deal-killer was the leakage, no matter how tightly the cap is screwed on. Will be returning this item.
Lightweight bottle, heavy & leaky lid
I use this bottle but replace the lid with a Nalgene one. This combines the best features of both (lightweight bottle, good sealing lid)
These bottles are great.
These bottles are great. How can you beat the price? They DO NOT LEAK. Maybe the others can't tighten a bottle well enough.
Leaks
Just to second the other reviews: I've had two of these and both leaked no matter how hard I tighten them.
