Comments about Perception Prodigy 10.0 Kayak:
My girlfriend and I purchased two new kayaks on the same day. I opted for the Wilderness Systems Pamlico 100 and she went with the Prodigy. The next day we spent about 5 hours on Lake Mead with the new boats. The Prodigy is an OK boat... but not great. Switching between the two the difference was remarkable. The Pamlico was so much easier to paddle. I was using We swapped yaks about halfway through the trip and she wouldn't give me my boat back. The next day she returned the Prodigy and exchanged it for a Pamlico. 'Nuff said.

Comments about Perception Prodigy 10.0 Kayak:
Heavily used at our lake house by us and guests. We own three of them. Easy entry and tracking for a beginner. Small enough that our 6 year old handles it well. Big enough that my 6'5" brother in law likes to take it out fishing. Primary stability is a strength and reassuring to novice paddlers. Well suited for poking around coves and dragging up onto beaches. Scratches like any plastic boat, but the hull is tough enough to take a good knock. Water drain on the stern deck is very convenient. Foot braces are easily adjusted without any contortions
Not a fast or sleek paddling boat. Secondary stability is not great either. No leaning on the rail to help with a turn but it spins relatively quickly. Never took it out in current or real waves. I don't believe it would fare well at all in those conditions. An advanced paddler looking to paddle 5+ miles would find this boat frustrating. The seatback is supportive but feels flimsy. No one has snapped one yet in 2 years, but I'm a little surprised at that. Definitely better seatbacks available. Can't imagine using a spray skirt in the ginormous cockpit opening.

Comments about Perception Prodigy 10.0 Kayak:
I have owned this boat for a year and used it 3-4 times per week on the Mississippi river near my home. The current can be stiff on the river and the water does some interesting things as it swirls around bridge piers. Power boaters and barges (briefly) can throw up 2-3 foot waves. Yet I have never felt endangered in this boat. You have to keep your wits about you on the river( bow into the waves), but one should be doing that anyway. - I can not recall getting water in the boat, and I have been out in some rather stiff winds riding some interesting waves ( I always have a life jacket, and a paddle leash, though I never have come close to using them ( I am a believer in second chances)). The boat is easy to paddle. It can be a workout in spring when the current is strong. But that is partly why I am out there. I have learned a lot about efficient motion in working with it. It is responsive. I don't have to "argue with it" much as I have had to do with some rental units I have used from other makers when on vacation. I realize a slimmer boat would move faster, but I personally want a certain margin for error when I am out.I like the stability -In sum, this is a great boat. It may not appeal to everyone, but I have found it to be a great way to get on the water at a reasonable price. I am not really tempted to "trade up. " The only thing that I would improve is that after a couple of hours, its seat and my seat are quarreling a bit. A bit of a cushion would take care of this.

Comments about Perception Prodigy 10.0 Kayak:
We live in Arizona and have many lakes available to us. Our friend in Tacoma got us into kayaking in the Sound and in the slow moving rivers of the Seattle/Tacoma area. We decided in September 2008, that it was time to purchase our own kayaks for the lakes in Arizona, so we both went with the Podigy at the suggestion of our friend in Tacoma. Specifically because it would be easy to enter and exit the boat and would be a good beginner or recreational boat. It ended up being too large for my wife. It is so wide and deep that it made it hard for her to paddle and maneuver. She literally looked like the boat was about to swallow her. She ended up purchasing a Montour 11.0. Fits her much better and paddles easier for her. As for me, the Prodigy feels as though it was custom made for me. Fits like a glove. For me it's very easy to enter and exit, easy to maneuver, can spin it around very easily, is very stable and handles white caps and medium rough lake water very well. Never has it felt like it wanted to go over. Even in big wakes from the motor powered boats, it bobs over them like a cork. In the white caps it will take water over the bow and/or side a little bit, depending on the angle of the wind, but not to the point of feeling like you're being drowned.
I find the seat to be very comfortable and the adjustable backrest is sufficient. We paddle 6 to 10 miles every time we go out, which is usually once a week, and a couple of weeks ago we decided to go the length of the lake, which turned out to be 16 miles, round trip. I did not exit the boat until we returned to the launch point. Neither my back side nor my back were sore from the long paddle. I am 68 so I think that says something for the comfort of the seat and backrest.
The adjustable foot pegs are great and easy to adjust. I wear a size 14 shoe and had trouble finding a boat that had sufficient room for my big feet in the front of the boat where the foot pegs are located. Again, the Prodigy came through with more than enough room to move my feet around and to take them on and off the pegs as desired.
If this review was written just about my experience with the Prodigy, I would give it 5 stars. But with the wife's experience, I took one star off as it is not a boat for everyone, in my opinion. But I would buy another one in a minute, if I needed one.

I bought this for my husband for Father's Day. We are novice boaters. We love it. It's the right pace for us and we are even comfortable, close to shore, with our 2yr old son in it with us. It's stable and good for what we are trying to do...have fun! For the number of times and/or opportunities we will have to use it, it's a great deal for the dollar.

Comments about Perception Prodigy 10.0 Kayak:
Fine boat for still water but in a current the tail end will always try to come around. Any flow at all will catch that knife-blade section on the stern and swing it. The seat back is going to break on you eventually, just replace it with a good backband. The cockpit is so large, any spray skirt will implode easily.

I love the ease of getting into the kayak. Colors are desirable. Our toy poodle loves to ride in the kayak with me. I liked it so much that I bought another one for my wife.

I am a VERY beginner kayaker and I live near a lagoon on the San Francisco Bay. The water has a very slight current and it tends to get a bit windy and this kayak handles very well! I'm sure someone with a lot of kayaking experience would not find this kayak suitable, but for someone like me its so perfect! I love it!

We bought this to keep on the dock at the lake house and it is perfect for recreational paddling on a quiet lake. I also use it for fly fishing.

Comments about Perception Prodigy 10.0 Kayak:
I recently moved to an area that has a number of lakes and slow moving rivers. With all the water around me, it was time to buy a kayak. This was the first kayak I have purchased and I wanted one that would be good for recreational/flat water. It handles really well for me, even when the wind picks up and creates small swells on the large lake. My only complaint is the weight; I'm a smallish female and it's hard for me to lift the kayak over my head and put it on top of the car (I would have this problem with any kayak, though). I would definitely recommend this kayak to others; it's a great little boat.
