Comments about Detours Toocan Pannier - Single:
I bought this bag to commute with and to take on longer trips--I've used it with my road & mt bike. The worst part is that it only attaches with two hooks at the top of the rack so it falls off easily and flops around if you turn, etc. It's also really heavy and bulky for it's size. The rubber bottom is sort of unnecessary and really weighs it down. Also, if you plan to carry it at all the strap is nice and padded but watch out for those clips--OUCH! After I gave up on this one I got the TransIt Metro Pannier from Performance and love it!

Comments about Detours Toocan Pannier - Single:
I use this bike on my commute to school. Since I'm carrying papers and books, I didn't care about weight, but I wanted something solid that would have an easy access, and this fits the bill. I like the fact that it rides high as I've had a problem with kicking the lower riding grocery panniers, and I really haven't had an issue of it falling off. I can stop for groceries on the way home and know that they are secure. If I have a lot of things to carry, the top opens up and stays like a grocery pannier instead of zipping. Exactly what I needed.

This is a nice-looking, durable bag. It's a little big and bulky, but it provides easy access and has a nice rack attachment that makes it easy to get the bag on and off. Size-wise you could fit a full paper grocery bag in it.

Bought it online for the looks & the price, but it's heavy and hard to open.
Rides high, which is good for shoe clearance if you have a short wheel base or a really upright frame, but the long aluminum clips don't have a solid locking mechanism & rely on gravity to stay on. Also, riding so high, on just one side, it makes for an awkward load if you put a full bag of groceries, etc. inside. Rubber bottom makes this unable to flatten for storage, but it would be great for setting in the mud. Roomy & nice pockets inside, comes with a rain cover, nice enough looking to carry into a cafe or the office, but I'm going to pass on this one.

It rides high, no problem kicking the lower riding type grocery panniers. Roomy & nice pockets inside, comes with a rain cover. The top opens up like a grocery pannier to carry excess but can be zipped closed for smaller loads. The bottom is super rugged, the pack should last for years of service. The handles and strap make it easy to carry anywhere. The addition of a bungee loop on the bottom inside (wheel side)might help snug it a little tighter to the rack/frame dropout. One on each side and you could carry a weeks wort of vittles home. Folders fit well too. Quit looking like a "bag person", stop using plastic bags, git ya one of these bags!

You can't find a regular pannier much better than this one for sturdiness, "sit stability," ease-of-attachment, and internal organization.
I use it for my smaller shopping trips and I've even used it when I can't bike, as an office bag.
The internal pockets have two smaller sides where it fits a thermos perfectly and holds it upright, no worry of it rolling around. A godsend if you don't have a bottle cage available. Two bigger side pockets hold standard manilla-folder-sized papers and magazines. The center leaves enough room to pack locks, groceries, other essentials.
What I like about the Toocan that is different from other Detours bags is that the attachment hooks are large steel. No plastic or need for a bottom elastic loop. Simple. And fits on my standard rack as well as the shorter rack on my folding bike.
I've taken the Toocan with it's raincover on an Ironman bike tour in cold rain, and never had a problem with it feeling like it would pop off or that anything would rise out of it. The hooks are long and the rain cover isn't meant to keep things "in" the bag, just to keep your things from getting wet. It zips securely closed like any other convential bag.
Yes, it's slightly heavier than a simple basket or a wire-frame canvas grocery pannier, but that's because it's got a rubber bottom and heftier sides. That's also what keeps it anchored well in the rack without needing bungies and/or a bottom hook.
Bottom line: Goes from being a utility bag to being a bag that blends in well at the office. You don't have to look like you're on a European backpacking tour to haul your day-to-day.

I use this pannier to commute to work and to run small errands to the store. I am a college professor and I put textbooks and grading materials in this pannier. It takes the load without any problems. I use the city bus to travel home from work. Putting my bike on the front bus bike rack could be a struggle with other pannier systems. This one works great! It takes me 1 second to pull it off the rack. This pannier stands up without tipping when I need my hands free to lift my bike onto the bus rack. It's as easy as 1-2-3!

This is great because it easily comes on and off the bike when you want. This is awful for the same reason. Mine's jumped off while I was on the road in traffic and doesn't feel at all safe to have. I'm going to get a new pannier system, but don't get me wrong, I'll keep this for WALKING trips to the grocery.

I use pannier bags to keep my gym gear, groceries, and other items in storage. I did my first [...] run the other day. I had 3 containers of soy milk, two small watermelons and other groceries in my bags. It work great! :)There is lot of storage and like how easy it is to remove bag from rack. The bag attaches great on grocery cart in store too. It is a bit heavy due to hard plastic bottom, other than that it's an awesome bag.I highly recommend it.

Comments about Detours Toocan Pannier - Single:
I really like this bag. It clips snug to my rack and doesn't bounce around, but I can see how it might pop off of another rack. I don't really want to spend any extra time messing with a complicated attachment mechanism in the Phoenix summer heat.
I primarily use it for grocery shopping on a heavier 3-speed cruiser bike, and it's perfect for this. The bag is made for hauling and feels durable. It rides high enough that my size 11 shoes don't hit the bottom. The outside pocket fits a large U-lock. The shoulder strap is well padded. It's stylish enough that people often ask me about the bag.
I would recommend one of those elastic bungie nets for bike racks when you overstuff the bag and can't zip the top shut. They work much better than the raincover will to keep stuff from bouncing out.
My only complaint is it would be nice to have another d-ring on the road side of the bag to help secure bulky items.
