Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

I am only a beginner as a cyclist, but am a pro when it comes to evaluating insulated water bottles (for office, etc. - I don't drink coffee). In the market for insulated water bottles, there are two extremes. Either you get good insulation, or you get something that is dishwasher safe. The VAST majority drop dishwasher safe for better insulation, and a few are dishwasher safe but barely insulate better than bare plastic.

This bottle does a great job of balancing the two. It is completely dishwasher safe - a HUGE advantage in dirty conditions, if something other than water goes in there, or if you get sick - and yet does a decent job of keeping things cold for a long time. Recently, we had a heat wave (98 degrees F, 98% humifity) and I took the bottle out, half filled with ice, and it kept the water cold for over an hour of riding in the hot sun. My brother's uninsulated bottle retained ice for about 15 minutes and was warm by the end. A non-dishwasher-safe mug that happened to be along still had ice at the end of the ride, which was better than this bottle.

So, if you want the best balance of insulation and ease of cleaning, this is the bottle for you.

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

Upon initial purchase, I was pleased with these bottles. They were easy to grip, durable, insulated fairly well and allowed me to adapt a camelback bite valve and hose to the mouthpiece.

However, after a short time I found that the bottles were retaining the flavor of whatever drink or fluid was last used in the bottle. In my case, that's a mixture of cytomax (from my workouts) and soapy water (from washing it afterwards). It's at the point where even after several flushings, etc. it still tastes like soap. I can't use them anymore without feeling sick to my stomach and nothing seems to take the soap taste out. Even a bath in a mild bleach solution would not leach the taste of soap out of the bottle.

I'm dissapointed; I want to like and use the bottles but won't be using them anymore. If I can't drink out of them during a workout then they're no good to me.

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

I must say that it's my first insulated cycling water bottle, so I have nothing to compare it to. That being said, it works wonders. After several hours of cycling, a cool drink in scorching weather is enough to keep me going. It's not a magical bottle: the ice does melt after those few hours, but let me tell you, the water is so much colder than a non-insulated bottle.
It comes with a ring (sort of like Nalgene bottles) to hang onto it, which is not pictured. It's not necessary for cycling, but it's nice to have elsewhere - just throw a clip or tie through it and you're good to go.

Please fix the Poppet! Otherwise I like

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

I would recommend this with one major caveat.

I have two of these that I used to use exclusively, and perhaps when they were new they worked better, but the poppets on both of them want to partially close under even the slightest pressure reducing the flow to a trickle. I will continue to use these a LOT during hotter weather as they do what they claim and that is insulate your beverage a little while longer than uninsulated bottles. They aren't magic, if it's hot and you are out for hours, I would recommend partially freezing (like half fill your bottle and lean it on angle in your freezer so the expansion of freezing doesn't bulge the bottle out) your drink in the polar bottle and using that as your second bottle.

If the folks who make this bottle would be kind enough to redesign the poppet so that it remains open until I want it closed, I'd be happy to make this my year round choice, otherwise I will continue to reach for my specialized 'hi flow' bottle when it is not hot.

I am sure if I returned it to the manufacturer or even rei, they'd probably replace it with no questions asked, but that's sort of beside the point, to me.

Other nitpicks, well of course it could insulate longer. And why isn't the top insulated, too? seems like that is a flaw to me. And it will get top heavy at times, since they are getting 25 oz of fluid, plus the thicker walls of the insulated bottle into a standardized cylinder, they have only one place to go to achieve the volume: UP! It's taller than the average 25 oz bottle. Oh well! Not much can be done about that. Not a big deal but be advised, it is easy to knock over.

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

Definitely a quality water bottle. It keeps liquid cooler for much longer than a regular water bottle or a Nalgene or Camelbak bottle would. Also very easy to clean as the bite valve is removeable. Fits well in bike mount. I'm thinking about getting another one.

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

I tried out this bottle for my son. I filled it with a little ice and cold water. I was VERY impressed. It "actually" stayed cold for a couple hours, even when I left it in my car on a hot 90 degree day.

Very durable, easy to pop top, nice colors, lightweight material. It also washes well with no weird smell. I used it for walking, shopping, long car trips, and biking. I think I am keeping this one for myself. ;)

My husband is the competitive cyclist and has 4 of these bottles! He likes them so much ...he got me a pink one for my workouts! I love how it keeps your water cold...for a long time...even ice keeps for a long time too! We left ours in a hot car for an hour....and the water was STILL ice cold! The grip is great, and it makes me drink more water. No leaks...and mine came with a handy strap! I highly recommend this product...and have to many friends already! He used all of his during his recent competition...the Las Vegas Rage Triathalon!

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

This bottle does work, But within reason. After about 2 to 3 hours the drink does get a little warm (nothing like my uninsulated WBs). But my liquids are consumed typically with in that time frame and I am stopping to refill.

BTW I used the top from a CamelBak WB that I ruined (very hard to do, But I managed :-), and that is a great upgrade!
The top that comes with the bottle does leak unless really screwed on tight, but the older CamelBak top I use on it now does not have this issue.

I do like these Bottles(I now have two) and the CamelBak(I also have 2 of these), Both are VERY good and worth the money charged, the CamelBak has a better valve, the Polar keeps the drink nice and cool.

Now to get out and ride!

Comments about Polar Bottles Polar Insulated Bottle - 24 oz.:

This bottle is worth every penny. I originally just bought one and used one of the regular plastic bottles as my second bottle (I have 2 cages on my bike). Even though I put equally cold water and an equal amount of ice in each bottle, after an hour in 90 degree weather (live in Chicago - hot and humid), the Polar bottle still had ice while the plastic bottle had warm water. It allows me to ride a lot longer in the summer.
I use them (bought another one) on the treadmill, so that when I run over an hour, I can enjoy ice-cold water. I even use the bottle at work since it keeps the water cold (in an office environment) for about half of the day, as long as you put ice in it.
