Comments about Crank Brothers Egg Beater SL Pedals:
I have a set of these on my recumbent and my mountain bike, and I haven't found a better pedal. I've put thousands of miles on mine and am very pleased with them.
To get the most efficient use of them though, you need a solid soled shoe. The more the sole flexes, the less effective these pedals are and the more sore your feet will get. I find carbon soles give me the most efficiency while mountain bike shoes are a compromise between efficiency on the bike and comfort off the bike.
If all bike parts were as good as these pedals, I'd consider giving up my car!

Comments about Crank Brothers Egg Beater SL Pedals:
I have three sets of these. Two on road bikes and one on my mountain bike. Overall, they're easy to clip in and out of, have plenty of float and are light even compared to other pedals that are much more expensive. On the mtb, they won't get clogged up with mud at all. I also like them because they're very easily serviceable as well as rebuildable (coming from a guy who is NOT mechanically inclined). Super easy to clip into since you can clip in on four sides - esp important if you're on a dicey section of trail.
I'd say the only con would be if you prefer to have a little bit more of a platform to your pedal - if you do, look at the Candy pedal. But if you have good shoes, you won't need any more platform (FWIW, I use them with Sidi Dominators and they're a perfect fit together).

Comments about Crank Brothers Egg Beater SL Pedals:
I purchased these pedals for my cross bike. Really happy with them. The four-way clip in makes it easy when remounting the bike and in muddy conditions mud does not clog either the cleat or the pedal. As a road cyclist, I wish there was more definition when clipping in or out. I have found that when clipping in your do always know if your engaged or not. I also like the small cleat. It's easy to run in and doesn't collect junk.
Overall very happy with the purchase, they have met my cx needs very well. However, I wish I would have spent the money on shoulder pads instead ... shattered my clavicle in my last cross race!!!

I love my egg beaters, I have these as well as the triple ti for racing! They take a little time getting use to but then you will be lighting fast entry and exit!

Comments about Crank Brothers Egg Beater SL Pedals:
This is the first clipless pedal I've tried, and I've used it for two years. I ride everywhere as well as commute to work. I use these pedals on the road, but I can imagine that they'd also work well on mountain bikes, which they are compatible with mountain bike shoes.
The pedals have quite a bit of float, but it's also nice knowing that I can adjust my knees without clipping out. The cleats also allow the ride to determine which angle to clip out at.
A huge advantage is the 4-sided entry, so there's no worry about the orientation of the pedal. I usually just scrape my cleat across the pedal and it clips in when it hooks the pedal.
For first-timers, I would recommend beginning with the "SL" instead of the "C". The SL's will last a lot longer, and it's definitely worth the upgrade because I haven't met anyone who didn't like their eggbeaters.

Comments about Crank Brothers Egg Beater SL Pedals:
I used to run these pedals on my commuter. They are very easy to get clipped into, but I hated the "floatey" feeling. There is a TON of float, and there is no delineation between float and unclipping. I understand these pedals are great for muddy CX/hike'n'bike. However, for on-road work I feel the Shimano M540 (the pedals I run now) are a much better, less expensive option.
