The REI Brenva ice axe's lightweight design can best be appreciated at high altitudes where every gram feels like a kilo.

  • Hot-forged, nickel chromoly steel head with classic positive angle shape provides lasting bite and chopping power
  • Lithe 7075-series aluminum shaft wields easily for superb control
  • Nickel chromoly spike plunges easily into hard-packed ice and snow
  • An excellent choice for classic alpine routes and technical usage on ice falls and chutes(couloirs, goulottes)

Imported.

Comments about REI Brenva Ice Axe:

I think that saying it is the axe you'd use at altitude "where every gram feels like a kilo" is a bit of an overstatement, since it is actually the heaviest of the axes that REI sells.

Also lacks the ergonomic head of the Raven and Raven Pro which may be slightly less comfortable for people with smaller hands while walking in self-arrest grip.

However, it is a good everyday axe made by Grivel at a great price.

Comments about REI Brenva Ice Axe:

This axe performs well for all axe related jobs. The lightness is nice on a long approach when you're not using the axe but just hauling it.
