Comments about REI Hiker First Aid Kit:
Overall, this is a pretty decent, basic first-aid kit. A definite upgrade from the REI "Basic" kit, which is about the same weight and size as this one.
The "Hiker" kit includes a little of everything, which is both a plus and a minus. On the plus side of the ledger, it pretty much covers what you'll need for most routine medical/first-aid conditions. The bag itself is well-designed and keeps everything organized and easy to access. On the downside, precisely because it has a little of everything it sort of winds up on the bulky side, and doesn't include enough of the really basic stuff - such as a sufficient quantity of band-aids and moleskin to last during longer trips, although those are easily supplemented. The scissors are a little flimsy, but servicable and can be upgraded if desired.
It's certainly possible to make up your own kit for less $, or to cut down on bulk by removing items from this kit that you don't think you'll need or want to carry. And for more $ you can shave off a few ounces with one of the "ultralight" kits, but for a pre-made kit that covers most of what you'll need, this is a good value.
If you're with a larger group, you'll probably want the "Backpacker" instead of the "Hiker."

Comments about REI Hiker First Aid Kit:
I found this kit is a little too big and bulky for Backpacking. I ended up just taking out what I needed and putting it in a ziploc bag for backpacking. I'll still carry the kit in the car, but for backpacking it's just too big.

Comments about REI Hiker First Aid Kit:
This is the best first aid kit I have seen. I am usually designated the medic of the group. This makes my job easy. It has a lot of variety all neatly organized and plenty of space to add more items with the durable cloth case.

A pretty standard first aid kit for hiking and light backpacking.

Comments about REI Hiker First Aid Kit:
This kit has everything you could want for short backcountry excursions (and all the stuff included works well). My only issue is that the scissors and tweezers always slide out of their pockets, and fall out when I open it.

Comments about REI Hiker First Aid Kit:
I added this kit to my pack for a day hike in the Grand Canyon. The size is small, it is very compact, and it has all the essential items for a day hike. The zippered nylon case is well designed and keeps everything organized and easy to access.
The kit includes everything you may need and there are no unless items. The included The Wilderness First Aid Manual by Dr. William Forgey is a must read.
I have had the kit on several trips and it has been used each time. Items to re-stock the kit are available at REI for a reasonable cost.
I highly recommend this kit for its size, contents, and value.
