Comments about Native Eyewear Hardtop XP Sunglasses - Polarized:
If I didn't like the lenses and the "coverage" so much, my 2-star rating would be even lower. I have had several pairs of Native sunglases in this basic style -- previously, mostly the Dash XP; but this time around, the Hardtop. Although I formerly considered them a good value, this pair is a big disappointment because of the inadequate frame design. After a few months of wear, the earpieces (which are detachable) have "sprung open" at the temple joint to the extent that they simply fall off or become unhinged with the least little pressure applied to the frame (like when I try to slip them under the strap of my biking helmet). Also, the rubber sleeve that is glued onto the earpiece came unglued and slid off and got lost, which leaves just the nylon tail that more easily slips off of the top of your ear than when the sleeve/cushion is intact. A year or so's worth of wear before these types of things crop up is OK for a pair of $25 throw-aways, but not when the price of admission is north of $100. I haven't asked Native for a new pair of frames, and maybe they'll come through for me (or maybe REI will step up to the plate), but I suggest you save yourself the trouble and go with the "fixed" earpiece frame style (as in the Dash). I've never even considered using the alternative earpieces (with the fixed tether/strap)(what the description refers to as the "interchangeable sports band"), anyway, so all I've got is a frame that can't stand the test of normal wear and tear.

Ear piece swivel construction is rather flimsy. One side pulled out of the frame within 2 weeks of purchase. It has been very loose since. No way to fix the problem. No way to adjust screw (post). I would not recommend these glasses if you are active. More suitable for casual activity.

Great idea with the interchangeable lenses and two different temples. Temples tend to get loose and fall off. I'm on my second set. Just spoke to Native and they acknowledged "design problems" and suggested I return them and ask for another model.[...]

Although they aren't cheap relative to the actual materials costs, the quality is fantastic. The Hardtop XPs come with a great semi-hard case, and a soft pouch which doubles as a lens cleaner. Additionally they include a second pair of arms which have a strap for situations where you may lose your sunglasses due to extreme activities. Free mail in coupon for clear lenses are also included and a great option to have for night time mountain bike rides. The lenses are clear and were free of any optical aberations. They are swapped easily without the need of any tools or prying.
These are great sport glasses with a warranty that can't be beat by the manufacturer. Of course you'll never need the manufacturer warranty if you buy them from REI.

I've had a pair of Hardtop XPs for two years. I wear them daily in town, hiking, fishing, boating and working. They have been dropped, kicked, stuffed haphazardly in packs and bags and continue to hold up fine. Like all plastic lenses, these will scratch but these have held up better than prior Oakleys and Scotts that I've owned. The overall clarity of vision through the lenses is not top notch nor is it problematic either. The only problem I've had with the glasses is the rubber ear and nose pieces sliding off after some use. Gorilla glue and an overnight clamping solved that problem. Given the amount of negative comments I speculate that Native might have a quality control problem. However, based on my experience with these glasses, I recommend giving a them a try.

I got these for cycling, although they are great for any outdoor activity--they wrap around nicely, they stay put on my face without feeling too tight, they don't fog up, and they block the sun coming in from the top of the lenses--Great protection for my eyes!
I tried many different styles and brands, trying to find a good fit for my face, good protection, and interchangeable lenses, and I finally narrowed my choice down to these and the Smith Factor Max--ended up getting both! These fit my small, narrow face just fine, even though they supposedly are for a large profile. The lenses are angled in such a way that they fit better than the regular Native Hardtops (which touch my cheeks). The SportsFlex lenses are really nice--they brighten everything up nicely in low-light conditions. I do wish that the lens swapping were a little easier--it takes some getting used to (unlike the Smith's, which snap in with no trouble at all).
I purchased mine from another supplier, because REI didn't offer the frame/lens combo that I wanted.

PREVIOUS REVIEW UPDATE: The Reflex coating started wearing off after a couple months of use. I was VERY careful with the lenses (cleaning, never dropped) but outside coating started fading away and ruined the optics of the sunglasses. I would not recommend these glasses since I ended up having the same issues everyone else seems to have with them. [...] I will switch to Rudy Project which several people I know use them regularly without issue and have an exceptional lense warranty.

I wore these during a 10 day trip to Walt Disney World. The ease of changing the lenses was great. However, while standing in line for the Rock N Roll Roller Coaster, one of the polarized lenses randomly popped off of the frame, landed on the ground, and got scratched. I had them on for several hours, so I know I had put them in properl[...]While a lifetime warranty is great, I wouldn't buy these sunglasses for that reason since a few claims later it will be more cost effective to just buy a new pair of sunglasses.Other than the warranty fee, I am happy with how these feel, perform, and look. The polarized lenses did a great job of protecting my eyes in the Florida sun while offered nice clarity. The frames did fog up one time, but the venting along the top of the frame minimized it. These are so light and easy to wear. I have a flat-ish nose bridge, so I usually have problems with sunglasses sliding down my nose if I sweat, but didn't have this problem with the Hardtop XP, even though I was very sweaty in the Florida icky humidity. I especially liked the extras such as the sport band sidearms have; I didn't worry about losing these once, and will buy my husband a pair just for that feature since unfortunately he is prone to losing expensive sunglasses.
