Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
This pack is great. I used it for 3 months while backpacking through Europe. Its big enough to hold a weeks clothing but small enough to carry where you won't get tired of it. The best feature was it holds a lot and feels small on your back. When I had to run long distances to catch a plane or train it was easy to get around in. I saw so many tourists with large packs and suitcases and many of them missed their train or plane because of the size of their pack or bag. If your looking for a pack that will get you around but not drag you down, you have found it.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
I've owned the Redwing since Sept. 2001. I've taken it on 3 long military deployments where I stuffed the pack with more than it was probably designed to carry. I've also taken the pack on 4 six plus week trips to europe, and numerous trips to Asia. It's the perfect size to carry on the plane. On my six week trips, I packed it with two pairs of travel pants, two travel shirts, 1 pair of shoes, shower shoes, and toiletries. And I still had room to bring back a few goodies. After nearly 7 years of abuse, it's starting to show its age. I can still use the pack, but some of the interior water repellant lining is wearing off and some stitching is starting to give on top of the shoulder straps. I'm going to replace it with a newer Redwing. It's the most versitile pack I've owned.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
I Purchased this backpack three years ago, and have used it everyday since. I use it for school, travel, biking, anything that I need, this pack is there to carry it all. It can fit all my books for school, and the next day carry dog food or groceries. I have used it on planes, and it fits perfectly underneath the seat in front of me, and completely fills the space. I use it to carry my peli-case. A few negative points: The front pocket organizer is virtualy useless because everything falls out too easily. The hydration pack area is not well situated, and the buckle always seems to get in the way. The material of the pack has began to desintigrate into two layers, and is not at all waterproof. When the pack is heavily loaded and you lift up on the handles, the side pockets are pulled open. Finally, the biggest detriment is that the bottom does not have enough resistance to wear, and holes have begun to appear. I estimate that the service life of my pack is heavy use five days a week year round for three and a half years before it is done for. Yet for all this, I find that my backpack suits my needs perfectly and was a sound investment.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
i purchased this last year at REI while preparing to scale down for a short trip into the Desolation Wilderness. i also own an ArcTeryx Bora65 (i think...) and wanted something smaller and less heavy (a major drawback of my Bora, which is 6 lbs).
all in all, a great pack for the money. it fit everything i needed for my trip (not during fall/winter so i didn't need heavy cold weather gear), roughly 25 lbs without water.
what i carried:
-UL fishing rod with lures
-REI chrysalis solo tent, pad, ground cloth
-food for two days, sans bear canister
-3 "tall" Oranjaboom beers in alum cans
-cooking pot, stove, two fuel canisters
-misc. clothes, light rain jacket, 1 pair of jeans
all fit in with room to spare.
one observation: i attached things to the daisy chain and halfway down Horsetail Falls i noticed the weight of what i'd attached had pulled the zippers down from the main compartment and had opened it up, dumping some of my cookware onto the trail. i suppose this is common and easily correctable if you pull both zippers to either side all the way to the bottom, but i didn't think about it when packing. just a little word to the wise info from my experience.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
I went on a primitive hiking and camping trip. We spent 6 days hiking 40 miles on the Knobstone Trail in Southern Indiana. I used this pack. There was plenty of room. It held 6 days worth of clothes, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The outside of the pack had room to attach things that would not fit, my tent and sleeping bag. I enjoyed the side pockets for water bottles they proved to be very useful.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
This bag is great if you don't know what all you will need on a trip. It's kind of an awkward size in that it's almost too big for a just a day hike, yet it's a little too small for anything more than an overnight. Hesitation is to take more than you will really need 'cause you have the room.
I now have 3 packs, a true day pack, an extended trip pack and this one, the go to bag.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
I've had two versions of this pack. The large (3100 cu in) and now the medium (2650 cu in) version. I have basically used these packs for a combination of airline travel and hiking. Took the large version as a carry on (and my only bag) for a two weeker in Yemen, Oman and the UAE. It worked perfectly. ...get this...the three layers of whatever material it is made of, along with a Lonely Planet Arabian Peninsula guidebook saved my life. The bullet from the AK was stopped at the guidebook (and I know, I only gave it 4 stars). Took the medium pack on a 3 weeker to China, Cambodia and Thailand. Perfect. 5 Days climbing the temples of Angkor with absolutely no complaints.
Looking for a new pack now for 7 months in the Middle East and Africa, but truthfully, can't find a better one. This is a really nice pack. I always went for Gregory and North Face and am really surprised at the quality of this one. It saved my life, what else can I say.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
I have had this pack for a while now and I am very impressed with it. It is extremely comfortable and has pockets in all the right places. The pack has plenty of room for a day hike and just enough for an over night trip if you want. I came across one problem on my expeditions however, I somehow tore the bottom of the pack. This wasn't much of a problem because the ripstop fabric didn't let the tear get out of control, but it was annoying. I was able to contact kelty about it and they repaired it free of charge in a timely manner though. Overall a wonderful pack.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
I've owned this pack for about 3 years now and have used it for everything from camping to weekend travel. The pack is a tough, rugged pack that stands up to general abuse as well as disgruntled baggage handlers. On the flip side, the pack is heavy and is an odd size. It is really too large to use as a day pack or a bookbag and its too small for any extended camping. I wish I would have ponied up the extra cash and gotten a bigger bag that would have served my packing needs better.

Comments about Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack:
Use mainly for day hiking and personal and business travel. Holds large quantity and fits overhead bins. Comfortable straps. Cross-chest strap great to hold camera strap and prevent camera from swaying during hike.
