I used this on an 8 day trip in the back country of the Smokie. I had it attatched to a 4L DromLite. Easy to attach and use. Never leaked or had problems out of it. MSR has another great product!

I use this with the Dromedary bladder and without it the bladder is just a waterbag. I got it to fit through the insulated tube pocket shoulder strap of my Dakine Heli Pro pack and just leave it there.

            Comments about MSR Hydration Kit:

I tried this hose for an overnight hike and it failed me in many ways. First, the hose kinked/crimped and stopped the flow of water twice. I had to repair at camp only to have kink again the next day. Then, the mouth piece kept leaking. Last, the bottle hose sticks out of the bladder and reduces space in my pack. I really wanted this kit to work with my MSR Dromedary bag but it didn't even last one day.

Works great. A little hard to fit into the hydration compartment of my pack. Way better to have water accessible than to stop often, especially when you want to barge.

                  Comments about MSR Hydration Kit:

The connection to the bag is strong, but sticks out too far for comfort. I wont be surprised when this snaps off or wears a hole in a food bag or something.

The reason for my review is the leaky mouth valve, even when "locked" closed it will continue to leak around each part of the valve.
This is also the most rubbery taste I have experienced including drinking out of a garden hose. I highly recommend getting a Camelbak mouth piece to replace this. You will need to keep the MSR tubing but the mouth piece can be taken off and replaced. Again a huge improvement and takes away all that rubber taste. And weird feel of the valve in your mouth.

I do love the MSR water bags though, and would highly recomend them. They hang well in an internal frame bag.

                    Comments about MSR Hydration Kit:

I used a 4L dromedary to carry purified water while traveling in South America for a year, and I used this kit to avoid packing an extra bladder for hiking.

It's a great idea, but the design needs some serious work. The bite valve is difficult to use. The attachment method is bulky and makes the assembly tough to pack around. Plus, the valve attachment is so far from the bottom of the bladder that it leaves behind a good 1/2 liter of water that you can't get to. Seals are flimsy at best - I had to use plumbers tape on mine for most of the year to keep it from leaking.

I liked the idea of saving space and streamlining my water gear, but this kit was a bit too faulty to make it worth the trouble. Save yourself a headache and go with a standard bladder.

                      Comments about MSR Hydration Kit:

I use this product with a 6L Dromedary bag. The flow is good. I use a SteriPen to purify water and appreciate the clear tube, which allows me to see what's coming so I don't get caught off guard. The tube routing clip looks cheesy but it has muscle, it takes a real snag to pull it away from its station. I have several friends who use these and have never heard of one breaking or leaking. One friend has a sort of green stain growing in his from leaving water in it during storage. He can't seem to scrub it out but it doesn't seem to phase him either. The tube is long enough and even though I loop it once inside the bag to minimize slack over my shoulder it has never kinked up on me. The bite valve just "feels" way better in my mouth than the CamelBak bite valves. It is hard to describe. I don't see it mentioned in specs, but you can twist the bite valve to turn off the water supply which is nice. When I disconnect the product from my bag and use the regular 3-in-1 cap (at camp and for cooking) I turn off the bite valve with a twist and water does not backflow which prevents leaking of the residual water from the tube into my bag. I pack a very heavy bag (41 lbs without water) in cold weather and have had no problems with damage or leaks because of pressure on the bag. Solid 4-star product (Great product). I reserve 5-star ratings uniquely impressive innovations.

                      Comments about MSR Hydration Kit:

I picked this up to go with a 6 liter MSR dromedary bag I intended to keep in the main compartment of my backpack.

On the plus side, the bite valve was easy to operate and the water came out without any strange tastes.

On the down side, the hose connection near the mouthpiece kept leaking in minute amounts. It was not a fast leak or anything, maybe a drop every few minutes when the bag was under pressure in my pack (from other things pressing on it). I fiddled with it a bit, but I'm not sure if it will continue to be a problem. To temporarily alleviate this I just blew a small amount of air in after taking a drink, so that water was not at that part in the hose.

Additionally, I feel that the hose could stand to be a few inches longer (3-5"). The problem I had with using this with a big dromedary bag in a large pack is that the lid end of the bag had to be near the top in order for me to route the hose around to the front with a suitable amount of slack. This is all well and good until you start to go below 25% on your water supply. At that point the bag is mostly collapsed and sucking water through the tube becomes almost impossible. This requires you to take a break, and move the bag around so that the water is accessible to the opening. In summary, if the hose were slightly longer, I could just put the bag in with the opening-end down from the beginning, and not mess with reorganizing the pack later.
