Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
I took the Aeolos out for a backcountry trip in the Wind River Range and Grand Teton Park. The Aeolos was great in terms of weight and ease of set up. It offers comfortable space inside and compresses to take up little space in a backpack.
I ended up returning mine, however, because the rainfly was a disaster. The position of the door on the fly means that it tends to sag when wet and is a generally a nuisance getting in and out. Playing with the stakes doesn't help.
The more serious problem that I had was that the fly kept sagging badly whenever it got wet. I would pitch the tent at night and it would be nice and taut to the point of being worthy of a photograph in an outdoors magazine. But I would wake up in the morning to find the fly sagging in multiple places to the point of touching the inside mesh of the tent if it rained at all in the night and a couple times simply from the morning dew. There is also one spot in the roof which tends to be flat near the door and easily pools water. We spent a lot of time working with the guy strings and stakes, but could never really get rid of the dip/flattening, which was a problem if you had rain for several hours.
I called Marmot to ask about whether this was normal and while they seemed somewhat surprised, they were very non-committal on whether it was likely to be a defect for which they would give me a new fly. I got the impression that they were likely to just return the same tent to me. In the end, I decided it was too much hassle and took it back to REI.
Too bad because it does have a lot of positives.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
Award Winner? Not a good design award, practicality award, efficiency award, construction award, design award, quality award. Maybe it was an award for most random little things that have no place on a tent award? The tent it's self is usable if you are not looking for a performance tent. It has plastic parts that will easily break, not enough support for the poles, and I don't recomend trying to set it up on a cold, windy, or rainy day. Don't buy the footprint it is useless. The independent setup of the rain fly is a myth, in no way is it practical, sturdy, or useable if you do so. This is an over engineered K-Mart tent that has a new falt ever time I set it up. In no way is this tent representative of the Marmot quality of old. This is junk that will soon be another former tent on your shelf or at the gear swap.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
I think this is a pretty good tent. The fly design is a little odd at first, but it doesn't bother me anymore. It is light, sturdy, and the perfect size for two people who want to be comfortable. I found that it holds up well in wind, rain, and snow. The bent poles are actually functional. They make the inside feel roomier than much larger tents. Good pockets inside.
It is not a warm tent. It does not keep in heat as well as some of my other tents, but I still carry it even when there is snow because I like the tent.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
As an award winning tent I was hoping for a whole lot more from this shelter. It is a great tent for summer trips to the crag or the beach but beyond that it falls short of what we all expect from Marmot. The costruction is quite soft and required guying even in light gusts to prevent collapsing. The rainfly design was poorly thought out, it has a tendency to unzip as much as halfway in the wind. Once you have the rainfly open and secured be ready for it to come un-rolled and snag on you/your gear as you try to get in. The storage compartments were designed less for storage as they were set up so that my headlamp and anything else I chose to put in there would come jumping out. Since there is no angle to the pockets they are more useful as an aggrivation than actual storage.
If you are looking for a lightweight shelter to get you through all season trips to the crag or wherever else your addictions may lead you...please don't make the same mistake I have.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
This tent is fantastic in warmer weather. It is practically bomb/water proof when completely staked out. The fly doors can be a bit tricky to use and roll out of the way until you work out a system for yourself.
Condensation is non-existent in this tent as the mesh walls make for some great circulation. But this also means that when the wind blows and the temperature dips, this tent holds very little heat. But this seems to be how all 3-season tents are constructed these days.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
I bought this tent for use on high country elk hunts in Colorado. During muzzleloader season, afternoon thunderstorms are common. This tent fits two big guys plus all gear (thanks to the two vestibules) and the two doors are a welcome feature. Handles rain and hail perfectly and keeps condensation out. This tent is hard to beat.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
Since I bought this tent back in Aug 2007, I have used it on 3 backpacking trips, 2 of which included rain, one all night throughout the morning (including packing up in the rain). Not a drop of rain in the tent! Pitching the tent correctly is key to staying dry. The 2 shorter poles need to go through the grommets in the rainfly. Folding the vestibule door is a bit tricky (an additional clip/tiedown in the center would be helpful). I found that folding the door away from the tent minimizes the issue. As airy as this tent is (short rainfly), I did not feel any wind blowing into the tent. Although a bit tight, we (2 adults) were able to fit our 85 lb pooch in the tent (thanks to the bent knee poles).
Overall, a great tent, not the ultra light like others in the market, but it is also not just a glorified mosquito net. And yes, fully taped seams is a plus.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
You must practice with this tent before heading out. It takes me about 5min to put it up. I have had it in 50mph wind and it was just fine. If you get it tight it will not collect water anywhere. My wife and I fit in the tent fine and the vestibules are large enough to leave your pack and shoes outside with out any problems. The second door is a dream if you have some one else in the tent.
Just like anything, the more you practice with it the better it becomes. The tent is a little on the heavy side if your going to count every ounce, but if the weather turns bad and you want good protection this is a great tent.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
This tent has been tweeked and re-tweeked! Marmot has really designed a functional shelter that is light enough to backpack with and roomy enough to be comfortable in. The bent pole design makes the interior feel taller and wider, while the bright color chases away a rainy gloom (I have waited out a rain storm with 5 guys playing cards in this tent). This tent is a snap to assemble (Especially by headlamp). If you can only afford one tent...do the research and you'll see that this tent offers a little bit of everything.

Comments about Marmot Aeolos 2P Tent:
Great tent!
It's a little tricky to set up the first time, but after you read the instructions you'll be able to set it up really quickly the next time. The design successfully keeps the rain fly away from the inner tent structure and it feels very solid.
Poles are nice and light (as I would expect given how much money I spent on the thing!) and all the tent stakes are included - nice light ones at that.
I'm a little over 6 feet tall and have a long sleeping bag and I fit reasonably comfortably, with the wife and a 50 pound dog.
Having a big door on both sides is great, and I really like the design of both sides having an external covered area. It's easy for both people to get in and out while leaving shoes outside the tent.
Very happy with this tent.
