It is an awesome invention! I have a couple of REI nalgene wide mouth bottles and these just work perfect, especially when I'm on the move or driving. prevents water from splashing all over the place for sure.
It's durable. I've used one daily for over a year until I lost it after taken it out to let a friend borrow the bottle. I currently have two.
I've washed them in the dishwasher multiple times. I do notice that they don't fit as tight after the heat dry cycle. They still works though.

These really are a great product. Who knew such a simple little piece of plastic could be such a great idea. It helps control the flow a lot, so there's less risk of splashing or spilling. Unfortunately, at least for myself and my wife, if you don't clean them VERY often, they develop some kind of mold-looking stain. Your mileage may vary. Thankfully they're easy enough to scrub with a toothbrush and pop in the dishwasher, but stock up on these all the same. They could probably improve this by adding an anti-microbial coating.

Love these splash guards, especially the graphics. They're easy to insert into the bottle and are very helpful in keeping things neat, especially with soft-sided bottles like the Nalgene Canteen.
For backpacking I use two 32oz wide mouth soft-sided Nalgenes (the wide mouth is compatible with a SteriPen). I have a habit of treating one bottle right away and treating the second bottle after I set up camp. But occasionally I got the bottles confused and accidentally drank the untreated water. Now I have one black splash guard with the skull and crossbones for the untreated water, and the green smiley face for the treated water. Functionally I only need one splash guard so I take out the black one once I've treated the water. Sounds a little cumbersome in writing but works great in the backcountry, especially because the Nalgene Canteens only come in clear. The two color system has probably saved me from Giardia by now! The splash guards are convenient and are a quick and easy reminder without adding much weight.

Bought to use with my new Klean Kanteen wide-mouth bottle but it just falls inside. Might work well with other bottles, but not Item # 793439. Wish it did though. I'd probably wear a lot less water! :)

This is exactly what I've been telling my friends I need so I'm glad I found one at REI! I am always spilling water all over myself when I use my Nalgenes so this little guy has pretty much eliminated it. It's possible I'm the only one with this problem, but I would imagine it is good for kids too as they seem to spill about as much as I do :) It's made of a rubbery material and I have had zero problems with it not staying in place or falling out on me. I actually thought it was going to be too small when I first looked at it but it's not, it fits PERFECTLY! Easy to clean and I actually just put it inside my Nalgene when I'm not using it.

I bought this is Tahoe Blue and it match the picture perfectly. This measures about 2" diameter and 7/8" high. Weighs .35 oz. I use this with a REI Nalgene Wide Mouth Bottle. It fits very snugly yet is easy to remove. I tried to dislodge this splashguardb by shaking the bottle back and forth uncapped with water inside but was unsuccessful under normal use conditions. I have not had any mold or funny taste issues. I wash this in the dishwasher and haven't had any problems. Overall, this product has been perfect for everything it claims to be. It seems that it will last for many years.

These little things are awesome! First of all, I previously had one which was made of a rigid plastic material and it was terrible (it wouldn't grip or seal as the silicone does). This one, however, is sweet. Perfect seal, perfect fit for my water bottle, and the Rasta design is the coolest. One of those musts for outdoorsy folks! Also, all you have to do to sterilize these/remove any unwanted odors is boil them for a few minutes (just like the directions suggest).

I bought the splash guard when I bought my 32oz widemouth nalgene. I kept it aside for the first month, using only the bottle itself just to see if I would have the characteristic "splash back", and to see if it really was difficult to drink from while moving. Conclusion: yes to both. Having now used the splash guard, I would recommend it to everyone and would not turn back. I did notice a different taste to the water for the first couple of uses, but after washing it a couple times, that went away. It enabled me to continue running, walking or otherwise be moving without having to worry about getting water all over my face. It fit perfectly into my widemouth bottle and is staying there really well. This guard is very well designed, and I highly recommend it!
