Using standard 16.4-ounce propane cylinders and a rechargeable water pump, unit can produce up to 40 gallons of hot water per cylinder and per charge

We originally purchased the Hot Water on Demand five years ago to wash the dog in the backyard when it's cold, (using an optional water hose adapter). I decided to pack it up and take it on a Boy Scout camping trip for the adults to use, and it performed flawlessly for hot tea, and washing dishes. Eventually, that weeked it would provide hot water for instant cocoa for the entire troop of 45 kids and adults! Lots of random handling, lots of use, and alot of hot water.

After all these five years, dozens of dog washes, and about six Scout camping trips it still works fine!

I was curious about the battery dying out and the Coleman customer service 800 number assured me that I can easily order a replacement when I need one. Don't bother with the service centers, it's not repairable only replaceable, call the 800 and get helped if you need it!

We love it. Comes with car charger and AC charger in side compartment. Got a lot of showers out of a single charge. Heats up quickly. We got the shower hose attachent. If you are quick you use about 2.5 gallons for a shower. Doesn't seem to use much propane. It has been the hit of several camping trips. A hot shower after a sweaty day of mountian biking feels so good. It can make very hot water. Turn the dial and in a few seconds you have hot water. If the jug is lower than the unit it does take a little effort to get it primed. Great design, easy to transport in the car.

We got this as a wedding gift in 2007 and have used it a handful of times in 2008. We camp each year with 30+ people and lets just say our camp kitchen area was always in use. We cook complete meals for breakfast and dinner and it is so nice to wash and rinse all our pots and pans with hot water. Taking showers in the evening after being in the boat all day covered in sunshine and bug spray was another benefit. We can not imagine camping without now. It takes up a little more room packing, but is well worth it.

Unfortunately, all I could get were single sparks upon turning this heater on, which would give me a couple of seconds of warm water and then the water would turn cold. The burner wouldn't light. Very disappointing.

I spoke to another person who had this product and he had a similar problem. The two Coleman service centers in my area said they didn't service this product. So, I would either have to ship the water heater back to Coleman for repair or replacement -- or return it to REI. I did the latter. Thank goodness for REI's return policy.

Really delivers hot water in 5 seconds - no more heating water on the stove. The water is definately hot enough to wash dishes or to take a shower when the sun is not out to heat your shower bag. Would be nice to have a spare battery available for use on longer trips or with large groups. Adapter for larger water source would be nice, though it is possible to submerge the pump supplied in a container with a large enough opening.
