The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
I needed an occasional raised bed with a 300 pound capacity - one with assurances that it would not collapse or leak. Turned into a difficult and frustrating search. User-reviews and hands-on looks seemed to eliminate every option, most claims being literally 'unsupported' by reality. The only info on the Byer cot was its own description. I don't usually trust those, but I ordered it anyway. If anything, it is more than is claimed for it. Very well made. The only quibble is that it squeaked some at first but has been noiseless since settling in. Using the LARGE Alps Mountaineering Comfort Pad [...] on the cot is a plus.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
We go tent camping at Big Sur often. I like tent camping which means cots (I have a bad back and can't sleep on the ground). I'm a heavy guy (225lbs) and I feel totally comfortable on this cot! It takes a little more set-up than a fold-open type of cot but it's worth it and it's actually more compact than a typical fold-open style cot.
Lot's of room underneath the cot to stow your duffle bag, shoes, cooler, etc.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
A good quality product for car camping. Coupled with a 3-inch pad, it is very comfortable. Strong and relatively quiet, only creaks when I turn over, but has a nice sound, like a wooden ship at sea. The ripstop polyester is very strong, and was probably chosen because it stretches less than nylon. Made in China, (like all the good cots available these days).

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
I camped 7 summer nights at Goshen Scout Reservation in Virginia. We were first to arrive and had our choice of cots - old wooden frames with canvas, even older metal frames with springs and a matress (my son chose that), and new aluminum Byer Military cots. I chose a Byer and enjoyed comforatable rest all week. I was glad I'd brought my own pillow but was fine without any other pad. If it was colder, a thin insulating pad would probably be helpful.
A heavier scouter broke a couple of the wood frame cots, but wouldn't have damaged this one.
Looking at the spidery alternatives, I agree that one plus of the Byer is having room underneath for storing things.
The cot so impressed me I wrote down its name so I could look into purchasing one of my own. No surprise REI carries this quality product.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
My opinion echoes that of the other reviewers. This cot is really stiff when you first set it up. Following the directions on the sewn-in tag did make it easier to fully assemble.
This cot was purchased because my back & knees won't allow climbing up & down from the airbed on the floor after a day of horseback riding, and it serves it's purpose.
The noise did seem to diminish as the weekend went on, but even at the beginning it wasn't bad.
The cot feels very sturdy, and coupled with a 2 1/2" self-inflating mattress, made for a good night's sleep. I will look at getting a little thicker mattress, but it wasn't bad at all.
Service and delivery comments:
Used the ship-to-store option, and it actually came in a day earlier than estimated.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
I bought this cot approximately 9 mos. ago since my wife could not handle my snoring (seemingly > 100 dB) and I had to sleep in the living room.
It works as intended - there is some play, but I weigh approx. 240 lbs., I don't notice the cot swaying back and forth.
Have the nephews sleep over who use the cot - even with the horse playing, I have not experienced any structural damage (Note: if by chance you pop a rivet, a No. 10 machine screw with appropriate washer/nut combo will suffice).

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
This is an excellent cot to get us old creaky campers off the ground while tent camping. I thought I'd have to give up camping before I found this cot. It holds my considerable weight without squeaking or groaning during the night. It does require strength to slip the last crossbar into place, so not for the faint hearted. Also, this is probably too heavy for a backpacker, but folds up well to fit in the car.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
Not what you want to carry as a camping standard, but if you're car camping or using it as a spare bed (it beats the air mattress hands down) this is a fantastic cot. It's fairly long in the folded mode so you'll need a fair amount of trunk space or a roof box to tote it around.
It's a little heavy, but heavy duty, and quite comfortable. I'm 6'-5", 220, and it worked extremely well over the holidays with extended family in town.
Set up was intuitive though those first few times stetching it out took some muscle and a couple of whacks.

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
Had to get the cot - too much snoring & additional capacity for son's cousins (a bit rough) since the inflatable mattresses were not cutting it (punctures, leaks, etc. - however, good trampolines).

Comments about Byer Maine Military Cot:
This is simply the best cot I've ever used. Stitching and overall build appears well done. It's very comfortable with or without a pad. The length and width give you ample amount of room if you're an active sleeper. You won't be packing this on the trail, yet this cot is pretty light while still being sturdy. I believe the replacement plastic parts for the military cot NSN7105-00-935-0422 can also be used with this cot, but I'm not 100% on that yet.[...]I would gladly ditch some extra clothing, ground cloth, and whatever else I could think of if I could pack this puppy on the trails. :) That pro'lly ain't gonna happen though. I'll use it for truck camping or for family/friend visits. Overall, this is a great cot and I highly recommend it.
