I bought these to act as rain pants for my motorcycle. I bought two sizes too large because I wanted to make sure I could get them over my boots, and because they were on clearance so I took what I could get.

As rain pants they are fantastic. They're basically rubber, and you can't beat that for staying dry. Of course this also means they are windproof and do not breathe at all. This works great for me because it also keeps the wind out; a bonus on cold morning commutes.

The wide leg openings slide over my boots and jeans very easily, the draw cord holds nicely and the snaps on the cuffs do a good job of closing off the bottom.

These pants would be excellent for sitting around the campsite or staying dry while kayaking. They are not insulated so if you want to stay warm you'll need your own insulation/thermal layers, and again, they are not breathable so in hot weather they'll act like a sauna, but for staying dry they absolutely fit the bill.

A++ would buy again.

I got these paints a little over 2 years ago. They just now need to be replaced. I have worn these paints 5 days a week for 9 months out of the year. I work in a very rainy and wet place. They have been tossed in the work truck, druged on non skid, and been in the mud. they have not riped or torn in the last 2 years. I just now need to replace them because they gave up and the wast band broke.

These pants are great for what they are: waterproof shells. I used them as shells over fleece pants in the snow and they worked perfectly for that.

One drawback: they do not breathe. If you are doing serious physical activity, these pants are not for you... you will start sweating. For light activity, they work fine.

Great shell pants for wearing when not going to sweat,Wore them when snowshoeing and it was a wet snow storm blowing tho,, it stopped my legs from getting wet from the snow but THEY are not breathable so that is the only bad thing about these, There a great Pair of non-Breathable shell pants.

I work as a maintenance man in a camp in the redwood rain forest, so every year I get dumped on by a lot of rain. I had a different pair of rain pants, but when I got my current job, these were the rain gear they provided. I didn't much care for the jacket, but The Helly Hanson pants are like a work truck, they take a beating, but they sure get the job done. These pants shed water like a duck, and are definitely abrasion resistant. I was also pleased with the adjustable chord around the waist and the buttons on the bottom of each leg. The exceptionally reasonable price also makes me feel very comfortable about taking these pants to work. However, as they aren't breathable I would NOT recommend you take these pants hiking, biking, or on any other aerobic activities as you will sweat up a storm. These pants, as advertised, are for non aerobic activities such as work where you need to stay dry.

I check the weather the night before my bicycle commutes in Madrid and if there's any indication of rain I toss them into my pannier just in case. I've been caught in heavy downpours on my bike, and I sure am glad I have these pants under such conditions. I just pull them on over my regular pants and continue my ride. If temps climb above 50º F or if you have to exert yourself to get up hills they can get a bit sweaty inside too, but for light riding in winter conditions they are the best thing I've ever owned. I get to work dry dry dry. Highly recommend for rain with cool or cold temps and light physical activity.

So, there's only one gripe: no pockets. For me, this was only a minor drawback.

Now onto the product's pro's. The bottom line: you will be dry! Thank goodness.

I just used a pair of these while doing a two-week stint of fieldwork in Maine's Northern Woods. I spent a lot of time crouching and kneeling as I looked through leaf litter, and these pants kept my knees nice and dry. And they performed just as well when we had some very rainy days. Additionally, they proved to be relatively durable. I was walking through very dense forests, and I was poked many times by sticks and branches.Thankfully, the pants held up. No holes or tears. Are they as durable as carpenter pants? Probably not, but they are just as tough, if not tougher, than most nylon pants out there.

As it says in the product description, this garment is NOT breathable. Which is, I suppose, all the better to keep the rain out. And, to note, if you do sweat yourself wet, you can quickly dry these pants (10 to 15 minutes with some breeze or sunshine).
