The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
Great stove! Not as small as the pocket rocket, but I enjoy knowing how much fuel is in my bottle (and being able to bring the amount I want).

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
MSR has become one of the leaders,if not the leader,in the portable stove industry. The WhisperLite Shaker is one of their many stoves that literally can clean itself of silt and soot by a simple shake.Good simmer, enough BTUs to bring 1L of water to boil in 3-1/2 minutes.Stable three legged stand that folds together and braided SS fuel hose tucks and hooks out of the way.

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
This is the best and only backpacking stove I use. Although it is slightly larger when packed up than the pocket rocket, I prefer the whisperlight's much more stable base and the fuel bottles fit in more places than the onetime use fuel canisters.

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
The stove does heat food as advertised but for the money there are much better products.
Due to the canister on the side and metal hose the stove is very unstable.
I had this stove out for about 5 trips ranging in temperatures from the low teens or less to the 60's. The stove was difficult to light and almost didnt work in the low teens.
The stove must be cleaned and is a real PITA to take care of and attempt to get back together. It is a High Maintenance piece of gear.
Better bets would be an Esbit Stove for $10. It is more stable, easier to clean and the fuel doesnt weight as much. Plus you can use the tabs to start a fire in an emergency or very wet day and you save a bunch of money!

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
My husband owned this stove before we met, over 12 years ago. We have used it on many backpacking and canoe trips and it's never failed us. Now we have two kids and we don't get out backpacking much, so the stove sat in our closet for 4+ years. Last weekend we got it out again for a car camping trip. It worked perfectly, even after that long of a "vacation" in our closet! I am so impressed with how reliable this stove is. Also, pretty fuel efficient, so we never had to carry nearly as much gas as many of the fuel calculators recommended.

I have owned this stove since 1996 and have NEVER had a problem with it - it just heats pot after pot. It doesn't simmer though, and I have a Trangia for that purpose. Together they're just the pair for our family of five. In Denmark use "Rense benzin" for white gas.

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
I have use the Wisperlite in many countries, and in various environments. It has proven itself to be a very reliable stove. I purchased this one, to replace another Wisperlite, which I gifted to another climber, and he too loves it! They are a light weight, compact, and easily maintained unit, which has never failed, even in harsh environments. For the money, one would be hard pressed, to find a better deal. One thing, when purchasing one of these, pick up a wind screen too...you will be glad you did!

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
This stove is, quite simply, the best! I used to have one of the first generation whisperlites, but it fell out into our driveway (Unnoticed) and got run over. That stove was about 20 years old. I then decided to get one of the newer ones, and they are still the great stove I knew, just better! I used this in Philmont and it worked without a hitch. What I like so much about the whisperlite is that is is simple, and because of that, it is like the AK-47 of stoves. The design has changed very little over the years and is still extremely reliable and widely used. BUT- the one achilles heel of this stove is the pump. It is, quite politely put, monkey feces. The pump is the thing that is causing all of the problems. Only if MSR would just make an aluminum pump. I wouldn't mind carrying the extra weight and spending the extra money if it means that I can rely on my pump to keep working. It has gotten to the point where I will bring two pumps with me on my outings. Over the twenty years that I have been using whisperlites, I have gone through 6 pumps. Also, the pump has awful throttle control. If I had the materials, I would just cast my own pump at home and tell MSR to make that. But I don't.
A little suggestion, if you dont want to deal with the pump and have a little extra money, go with the whisperlite universal. That way you can use isobutane until MSR improves the pump.
All in all, this stove is great, but I would suggest carrying a field repair kit for the pump or just a complete extra pump.

Comments about MSR WhisperLite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove:
Product lights great, works for long periods, ingenious design. Only problem is that you are basically the temperature control. The stove is HOT or OFF. Had to hold my pot above the burner for things like rice and noodles. Otherwise, I love this stove. Don't let having to watch your food cook keep you away from buying a great lightweight.
