      This is a great top when worn to fend off splash in cool to cold water or in windy, overcast conditions to minimize evaporative cooling. The Paclite Gore-Tex breathes better than traditional Gore Tex and the garment is light and can be stashed anywhere just in case. The collar and cuffs cinch down well making the top nearly water proof unless you plan on rolling or swimming a lot. Even though it isn't meant to insulate, it's a good top to throw over an outer core fleece to block the wind and spray on a chilly day of paddling. The silhouette is patterned well and allows for full range of motion. One step below a full dry top.

        I wore this for a week while kayaking at Isle Royale NP in September. Air temps in the mid to uppper 50s and water temp in the lower 50s. I found it very warm and breathable wearing a short sleeve, lightweight wool shirt. I tipped over once and did get some water in around the waist, but was comfortable paddling the rest of the afternoon with a slightly damp waist. Overall, I was very pleased as I usually have a problem with perspiration buildup even with the best of breathable, ventilated jackets.

        Hypothermia is always an issue sailing on SF Bay. This top kept me dry from cold spray, yet kept me from sweating like most spray tops do. The waistband was a little tight, but does provide a good seal. For sailing, a chest pocket would be nice. I like that there is a "parking place" for the velcro neck seal when it is open so the velcro isn't always snagging on gear. Worth the money!

          I bought this paddling jacket for my first season of kayak guiding. It packs small, fits well, the collar and cuffs fasten tightly. I find that the color is beginning to fade slightly.
          A good jacket for the price, just remember to keep it away from the campfire! Gore Tex and dirt just don't mix.
