    Comments about PowerBar Gel:

First and foremost, Powergels are the original, and best gels on the market. Many will disagree, but hey, that's why it's called a PERSONAL opinion.

I must confess... When I said I have tried them all, I lied, but I HAVE tried enough to know that some are awful, some are edible, and some are downright tasty!

    AWFUL:
Plain - Unless you enjoy the taste of plastic.
Tangerine - A bit too strong.
    Green Apple - No comment.

    EDIBLE:
Vanilla - It's tough to mess up vanilla. It's also tough to make it great.
Strawberry Banana - I pick this one up for a change of pace sometimes. Not great, not bad.

    TASTY:
Double Latte - When it's time to get serious, this is my choice. I question the addition caffeine since it is a diuretic and you're likely trying to stay hydrated, but I'm going to trust the guys at PowerBar over my limited knowledge of the human body.

    PowerBar Gels Work

    Comments about PowerBar Gel:

I take these on all my long bike rides (50+ miles) and long runs (10+ miles). I'm currently training for my 1st Ironman and some practical advice I got was to use the same nutrition that's offered on the race course. Nutrition is *very* personal, so to follow that advice might not work for everyone, but I'm following it for the practical reason of not having to provide for all my nutrition on the long race day.

I didn't like the taste of PowerBar gel initially (for taste Hammer, Carbbom, and Gu are all better), but I definitely have a great physical response to PowerBar gels and have learned to like the taste.

When I had ran out of PowerBar gels, I went to a local bike shop and out of recommendation of the staff I used Hammer gels for an entire 75 mile bike ride - I think I ate 4 or 5 that day along with my usual PowerBars. I didn't think they performed any differently until I had my quick transition run to do after the ride. I started cramping! I think the extra sodium kick in the PowerBar gels helps, especially for people who sweat a lot like me.

Also, the Hammer products by comparison were more difficult to open and eat. Initially, I was just using PowerBar for practical reasons but now I prefer them. These gels are near perfect, especially for performance: I subtract a star for taste.

    Comments about PowerBar Gel:

Really the only downside is that at higher altitudes these will explode or burst in your pack/pocket. 6000m is about the limit unless you want to be licking gel off your gear like I had to.

        Comments about PowerBar Gel:

My review is for the Tangerine and the Double Latte.

The Tangerine has a taste, that is so bad, that it has the capability of causing those, unfortunate enough to have tried it, to seriously question why the Power Bar Company would release it to the public. It might also cause you to not try ANY other Power Bar Gel, after questioning the competency of the intellects that released "Tangerine" in the first place.

Fortunately for you, the reader, I also purchased the "Double Latte", and Strawberry, the former, I haven't tried yet. My experience can save you the trouble of wretching later on!

The "Double Latte" I would classify as having a taste, that is 50% better than "Tangerine"...Which is the worst imaginable concoction produced by man, short of unprocessed sewage, or nuclear waste.
The "Double Latte", is something to also avoid.

I will not be buying Tangerine or Double Latte, and these are so bad, I would not take either of them if they were offered for free.

Maybe your dog will eat either of these while you're on that long hike, but the dog will never trust you again.

To me, these two items, are unfit for human consumption.
If anyone offers you either of these two items when your on that hike, hot and tired,...it is NOT because they are your friend!

              Comments about PowerBar Gel:

I like these gels only when I am really going MTBiking tough for over an hour and also when running more than 8 miles. Sometimes if I run 12-14 miles I'll down one pack at mile 5 and feel pretty good. The "quick boost" feel normally will depend on the nutrition that is in all of our regular diets so don't always be fooled by that term. I will continue to use and never really have needed more than one pack in a 2hr span so far.

              Comments about PowerBar Gel:

Used as directed, it keeps up my energy and spirits on long hard workouts. Foil tab falls off the package and the package can get sticky during use. Package should encapsulate itself when empty and store easily until it can be tossed.

              Comments about PowerBar Gel:

I love these things and use them almost exclusively for long hikes (watch out-they can tear up your stomach if you have more than one or two daily!) I am not going to comment about taste because that's a highly personal issue. I will say that I like the apple and the raspberry flavors. They do give me a quick boost, but I believe that weight and level of activity and diet play a large part in whether or not they work for you!

                Comments about PowerBar Gel:

I take a few of these and a CamelBak full of water with me for each session out on the water. That combination is definitely easier to carry than Gatorade. I prefer the "Plain Energy" flavor. The stuff is not easy to take the first few times, but gets easier even tasty. My only gripe is that the tab -- which is ripped off to open -- blows into the water and sinks. It is exactly what it say it is.

                  Comments about PowerBar Gel:

I take a PowerGel in the middle of long bike rides. It gives me a noticeable energy boost compared to my peers who only drink water during the rides. I have tried the tangerine and chocolate, and I prefer the tangerine. The chocolate is too thick to shoot like a gel. I'll admit I always have to drink water immediately after shooting because of the taste but the directions tell you to drink lots of water anyway. I always took them on long patrols while deployed. They are much better and healthier than energy drinks.
