Comments about AlpineAire Mountain Chili - 2 Servings:
These are tasty. AlpineAire has sold these in a "Lower Sodium" version as well, don't know if the entire version is now reformulated, or if that is a separate version.
In any case, the chili spices are wonderful and well-balanced. The "lower sodium" one tastes like it should have just a touch more salt to me. Makes the TVP or whatever soy they use very palatable, along with the freeze dried beans and corn. The chili is especially nice with a little bit of tabasco or some BBQ sauce. The TVP is cut into small gravelly pieces about 1/2 the size of a grain of wheat, so you really get a good "ground meat" texture in the chili.
I eat this once every few weeks (I have some extra packets at work for emergency food), and I never mind eating it.
My only slight gripe is that it's difficult to portion out 2 meals from the reusable bag. The dry beans/corn/TVP tend to settle out towards the top, so if even if you shake it to recombine and pour it into 2 separate containers, your first portion what the bigger chunks of beans/corn/etc. and the 2nd portion has all the chili spices and salt. This is not a problem if you make 2 servings in the same bag. However, I'm a big guy, over 6'5" + 220lbs and there's no way I can eat a whole bag, it's a LOT of food. I tried once, but I couldn't finish it.
I've had the AlpineAire chicken gumbo as well, also very good.
