        I bought it because of the manufacturer's lifetime guarantee on the package. After relying on it several times now it has proven to be very dependable. I am confident that it's okay to throw the original package it came in away. This compass performed just as well in Panama as it always has in California. Buy it!

                If you're a complete novice like me, be aware that there are absolutely no instructions with this compass. When I googled instructions I couldn't jive the instructions with this particular compass so it's not useful for me at this point. I don't disagree with the other reviewers who obviously know how to read this compass. Call me a moron if you like, I certainly do feel like one but I can't be the ONLY person who needs instructions.
