Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
This is your basic foam pad. It is very light, a little bulky and not as comfortable as a thermarest. It is also cheaper than the alternatives. I trimmed mine down a tad so that it would fit better in the bottom of my hammock. It isn't perfect but, all things considered, it is better than my other options.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
Just a nice, simple pad that works. The first thing I did was cut it down to 20" x 58" so I could carry it easier.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
This gets 5 stars for what it is: a closed-cell foam pad. It is bulky and extremely warm. I use it for hammock camping, and it is very comfortable. The surface is very "grippy," so it does not slide around. I don't think it would be very comfortable if I were sleeping on the ground with this as my only pad. It is primarily for insulation, not for comfort. CCF pads will not compress, which is why they insulate so well. If you want something small and comfortable for sleeping on the ground, you need to get a different pad. Again, I've found this to be perfect for bottom-insulation in a hammock.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
I got this pad about 20 years ago. I finally started using it. Not much can hurt this pad. It does its job of padding you from the ground by insulating you from it. And I don't find it all that uncomfortable.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
My dad bought my Blue Pad for me in the early 90's for a Cub Scout camping trip. For years I hated using it because it was big and blue. But just last weekend, I understood that blue pad. She wasn't all that bad. She always pulled through for me. Kept me insulated from the cold hard ground, was sturdy, and never suffered a flat. And yes, that ground will always be hard. But only when sleeping on your side.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
The surface layer is a cross-section of the interior closed foam material, and consequently the result is a coarse textured outer layer. While this may aid the pad from not slipping it provides dirt and water a location in which to embed itself. So the once upon a time lightweight pad soaks up water and dirt which not only adds to the weight of the pad in the field but also has negative ramifications to your equipment.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
This is your basic foam mat. Much, much better than nothing at all; not nearly as comfortable as (but much lighter and cheaper than) an air mattress. If weight is not an issue, or if cold is, then an air mattress on top of this baby is prime living.
I have also found that a foam pad protects better against the feel of sharp sticks and rocks than a thin air mattress does. A foam pad surrounds them and turns them into large, smooth bumps. An air mattress, on the other hand, protects well against sticks and rocks *except* when your weight is on them, in which case you can still feel their sharpness, which is very annoying. But an air mattress disguises simply uneven ground better.

I use this when winter camping under my 3.2 r-value self inflator pad. I always get a great warm nights sleep.

Comments about Standard Blue Foam Pad - Long:
We went on our first overnight stay in the snow. The temperature was about 20 degrees that night, I have to say these pads work great as insulation from the cold ground, but as a nice comfortable place to sleep the night away????? Well lets just say out of 3 adults and 2 kids, the adults were very tired come morning. All in all we still had a great time and will still use these pads for the insulation factor and to protect the more comfortable pads we purchased for all our other hiking/camping trips we intend to take every chance we get.
