Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
My initial impression of these socks was very favorable. Unfortunately, they began to develop holes after being washed only two or three times. I doubt they will last more than a few months. Very disappointing given their relatively high cost.

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
These are great socks. They provide great padding and it seems like I can hike a few more miles before I notice and protesting from my feet.
They are warmer than all of the thicker socks that I own. So I often wear them when lounging around the house in winter instead of the socks that I bought for lounging around the house in winter.
I've had the same two pairs for 12 years. They were broken in as my only two pair of socks during a year of backpacking and waiting tables around Europe. Recently one finally got a hole in it. Even then, the hole only happened because a piece of plastic in the shoe I was wearing popped loose and wore a hole in both the sock and my foot.
If you're warm natured, this is really a winter hiking sock. As much as I love them in the winter, they hold too much heat for hiking in the spring or fall. I wore them hiking today in a pair of mesh-upper uber-breathable trail runners, it was a little under 60 degrees and my feet were hot until the temperature fell below 50. Wearing them with a Gore-tex backpacking boot, my feet get sooo hot and extravagantly sweaty. I love them and I'm going to buy two more for the winter, but I'm going to try some cool max lite hikers in the spring and fall.

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
These socks are like heaven for your feet. I have always believed in treating my feet well. I always wear good shoes/boots and quality socks. These socks are absolutely the best I've ever worn! When you put them on your feet for the first time you will be amazed at how soft they feel. I have several pairs that I've worn everyday for over two years and still there are no signs of holes or even thinning. Well worth the price!

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
I bought 2 pair of these socks and 2 pairs of Smartwool sock when I deployed to Iraq. After 6 months of use, they are still in great condition. My only complaint is that they are a little too heavy for the weather here and my feet get warm; hence the 4 star rating. If you're in a cooler clime these would be perfect. They have survived the rough Army laundry service here with no problems.

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
I've hiked in these socks for over 12 years, including 9 trips on the West Coast Trail, without any problems. They are comfortable, durable, I don't get blisters, and are they are fine even when soaking wet. A dry second pair in camp at night can be very cozy.

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
I wear these all the time, super comfy even when you spend all day on your feet and they don't make my feet overly hot. Much more comfortable than wool socks for me, I do have a pair of wool blend Thorlos as well and these are much more comfortable, none of the itching I get with wool.

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
Thorlo socks are always a best choice for any activity, and they cover all the bases for fit, etc. BTW, if your socks "get a funky smell", the problem is your feet, NOT the socks, especially Thorlo!

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
I use these with hiking boots when I am hiking hard surfaces or urban settings. The extra padding really helps add cushioning. The uppers are light weight. These socks add extra warmth in winter. the blend adds strength and comfort. I cannot wear wool blend socks, too itchy. These are comfortable all day and not hot even for summer hikes.

Comments about Thorlo Hiking Crew Socks:
I ran onto these years ago and have worn them almost daily for over 10 years. With my steel toed work boots, Tony Lamas, Merrells or my Vasque hiking boots they are very comfortable. These are the best socks I have worn or I wouldn't still be wearing them. I wear them with several different styles of footwear and yes, it is a thick sock.
However, if you think about it when you buy the footwear that isn't a problem. Wear the socks you plan to wear with the shoe. Try before you buy, REI folks are more than happy to help you find what you need. A real no brainer huh?

I wear these just about every day fall thru spring with Ecco Track boots. Very comfortable and cushy, especially after a wash. You'll be glad you got 'em.
