POOR QUALITY lenses and Frames

I like the look of these glasses, but that is about it. Based on the reviews, there are serious issues with these glasses. They are simply POOR quality. First of all, i take care of my glasses and I live in WI, so I only use them heavily in summer months. The lenses are so cloudy that I can barely see out of them, and the plastic on the frames is flaking off like the plastic that comes on a protective screen. I have had these glasses for 3 years (out of warranty), and now they are basically not usable. Given the issues, I cannot invest in getting these repaired. This is unfortunate because I have always loved Maui Jim sunglasses, but the quality now is no better than the bargain brands. Save your money and stay away from these glasses!

Great Sunglasses - not so great lenses

I purchased these glasses May 2023 and absolutely loved the light frames and fit, not to mention the cool look of the Lava lenses. I take extremely good care of all my sunglasses and always buy high end products. Now I am noticing a cloudy/blurry area on the inside of the right lense. I always use mild dish soap to clean the lenses along with microfiber cloths to wipe. I cannot seem to get this area to come clean. It looks like something in the coating on the inside of the lense. The left lense also seems to have a similar issue forming. I am still under warranty and am hoping Mau Jim can help here?

Great but has setbacks you should consider

The glasses themselves are very light and flexible so they fight a range of head shapes and sizes. The lenses prevent sun squinting and pain from the sun. However, they are not durable. When I purchased them I was told if a dog got them, kids, or they were accidentally ruined the amazing customer service would easily repair them. They lacked to mention the repairs are 1/3 the cost of the glasses. I keep my glasses in their box when not in use and only clean them with the cloth. Over the course of one month they are both scratched in the exact same spot. They scratch very easily and you have to pay for repairs to them. I would not have purchased them had I of known how easily they are ruined and how they cost.

Delighted

Just bought a pair of these with Matt Blue frame and Hawaii blue lens, just love them, a perfect fit straight out of the box, first time ever i've not had to adjust the nosebridge on a pair of sunglasses. Frame is really lightweight and i love the colour it's a really dark blue almost black colour. Another reviewer said although the size of these is almost identical to the Pokowai Arch sunglasses the Huelo do look slightly smaller on your face, and the reviewer was right, they do look a little smaller which i like. These are fabulous looking shades i'm delighted with them.

Nice but big

Very nice light weight frame and good eye coverage. The one thing I do not like is they are a bit too big. They look more like goggles on me

Great Glasses, One Major Flaw

There’s a lot to love about these glasses, they’re super-lightweight, very comfortable and look great. They’re not too big or too small and have a classic look. Unfortunately what others have complained about is true: they scratch VERY easily. I’ve owned nearly 20 Maui Jims with various lenses and I’ve never had an issue with scratches like with this model. I liked the Huelo so much I bought another and both wound up getting badly scuffed up only after a short time so it wasn’t a fluke. It’s too bad because otherwise they’re fantastic.

Great then, not great

I finally decided to buy the matte blue frame/blue lens Maui Jim sun glasses last year because I have been told they are the best and the lenses are superior. The Huelo frame is second to none with the sleek design and weight but the lenses have really let me down. After just one year of normal/light wear the lenses are severely scratched to the point where the view is hazy. I store them in the case and only clean them with the Maui Jim cleaning cloth. I find my self reaching for a different set of sunglasses to wear when that used to not be the case. I LOVED these glasses when they were new. For the price I would expect these lenses to hold up better and last a few years before needing repairs. Maui Jim, I'm a huge fan, but something needs to be done.

The Lenses

As others have mentioned.. I absolutely loved these glasses until I didn't. They looked great, were extremely comfortable and I loved the flexibility of the frame. It seemed like almost overnight though, the lenses looked like I had drug them behind my truck. Not sure if it was from cleaning or what, though I cleaned them the exact same way I clean other brands and have never had this issue with others. This was my first pair of Mauis and likely my last as other brands in the same price range are more durable.

Great style, comfortable and light weight.

I purchased the Maui Jim Huelo’s with lava color lenses a few weeks ago. Great lifestyle design, super light and comfortable. The lenses are not as durable as other manufacturers lenses in the same price category. The mirror finish scratches easily and I always keep the sunglasses either in the cloth bag or hard case. I would expect Maui Jim Huelo lenses to be a little bit more durable especially when you’re paying a premium price. My lenses on my 4 year old sunglasses has less scratches than these.
