Only 2 Minor Flaws That Are Easily Corrected!
Giving the stove a thorough examination before using it, it was apparent that there was no way to make adjustments for level in both directions, something fairly important while camping/cooking outdoors. Also the metal bottom really had no way of keeping the stove from sliding around when placed on a table. My first thought was to buy some adjustable none skid feet and install them into the existing holes at the bottom corners. I talked to Camp Chef about this and their response was, not a good idea because the holes in the corners at the bottom of the stove were necessary for the venting and air flow system. That being said I went to my local Lowes, purchased 4 self adhesive pads (see photo) and placed them in the corners without covering up the holes, stove is now stable with no movement or sliding around, first issue solved. Second issue was resolved by purchasing the REI Co-op Camp Prep Table Item #186019, with the four legs being independently adjustable (see photo). Getting the stove perfectly level in both directions is a breeze, which my wife really appreciates while preparing/cooking meals!
Awesome BEAST of a stove
I bought this stove last summer for a car camping trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was frustrated with the lighter but then realized what altitude I was actually at and piezo lighters don't work so remember this when you go to altitude with it. Below 7400ish youre good. The power these burners have is amazing, great for fast cooks or for a big group. It works great with cast iron and I liked the flexibility. It boils water incredibly fast with the 20k btu burners, faster than my gas range at home. It is a little bulkier than other stoves but perfect for camping or a quick picknic, I've even used it at the sledding hills for making cocoa. I opted to get an adapter and a 5lb tank and after multiple uses I'm still well over 3/4 of a tank.
Durable, high heat stove
This is a well constructed camp stove that runs on the larger side, and it puts out some serious heat. Very easy to assemble, and uses readily available propane canisters. Simply thread the propane canister to the regulator, thread he other end of the regulator to the stove and your ready. The matchless ignition is a nice convenience. Sturdily built with a built in carry handle on the back. I’ve only taken it out once at this point, but I don’t anticipate durability issues. As I mentioned it is on the larger side, which is great for cooking for a family or larger group as it will accommodate larger pots and pans. Keep that in mind if your considering placing a griddle on top. I had a lodge cast iron griddle, which fits well on small camp stoves, but doesn’t quite cover the entirety of the flames coming off the burners on this stove. It’s useable, but I will likely purchase the camp chef griddle that better fits this stove. The heat coming off the burners is impressive.
Amazing car camping cooktop
I bought the original model that had the regulator recalled by camp chef. It has been a great stove and will serve me well for many years. Excellent adjustability from low simmer to fast boil
Fantastic camp stove
I purchased this stove for the purpose of cooking for camp trips with greater than 5 people, this is the best stove I've ever used in all my years of camping with larger groups. High pressure output eliminates the need for wind blockers, heat for cooking remain consistent even with mild wind gusts of 12mph. The ignitor is reliable and just works every time and the valve for each burner provides good resolution of the flames, it is easy to put it on low flame to simmer or turn it up for frying. This is truly one of those items "you get what you pay for", I'm eager to use this on my next adventure where high wind is usually an issue for cooking on smaller stoves.
Hot!
Bought the Everest for the primary purpose of making camp coffee and it heats water admirably for that endeavor. The two burners put out in my opinion a maximum amount of flame for a camp stove of this size. Low level flame adjustment is fine for simmering camp fare. Lid serves well as a wind break although the side wings are not “notched” at the stove top connection point and too easily slide out of position. After 3 bottles of fuel, the piezoelectric burner ignition no longer works. Gas bottles left connected on this particular stove will bleed empty within 24 hours. Easy to clean, overpriced given the above annoyances.
Everest 2X Improved Over Everest
I bought this to use while we renovated our kitchen. I found the issues with the latches and burner controls to be fixed, there are now two metal latches on either end and the burners are easily adjusted from very low to very high with good control. The burner controls and ignitor button are still outside the enclosure when closed, so you'll want to be careful when transporting/packing it. There are still the same great dual 20'000btu burners that heat quicker than our home range! It does not really come apart except that the grate and the gas regulator come off no tools needed, everything else is sealed up and tight. It can easily fit two 10" pans at the same time, and I got my 12.5 saute pan on there by folding in the wind screen in on one side. All in all a good product that will find a home in our camper.
Cooking, Not Boiling
Don't get me wrong: this beast boils coffee like nobody's business but if you are cooking for a hungry crew at the campsite and are making anything requiring a deft touch like over-easy eggs then precise control at the bottom end is critical. I slow cook camp bacon until crisp, not burnt. This stove does it. Waiting part of a meal on simmer while a portion of your party arrives? this is the stove you want. Campground paella? You need this. Cocoa without scalding? You wee campers will smile. The latches are metal. The wind screens actually work. The burners hold a flame on low. Car camping only (built like a beast and just as massive) but is tough enough for travel in the back of a open pickup over three hours of forest service trail: no worries.
Simple, straightforward, good!
While this stove did not have many reviews when I purchased it, I am glad that I did. It is a simple design, sturdily built, and easy to use. You need to get use to the low simmer capability at first. Keep an eye on your food. The wind protection side panels are great in that they clip in place. A few suggestions for version 2.0: The metal base below the burners tend to discolor after a few uses. I had to use steel wool to clean.Think about a ceramic coating to make it easy to clean. Also, consider a handle. I also purchased through Camp Chef (not through REI as they did not offer it) a hose extension for a FlameKing portable propane tank purchased through Costco (again, REI did not offer this.) If you get the tank, get the one with the gage already installed).
Warranty is too short for a broken part
After 2 yrs, the internal pipe is broken and the warranty is only for 1 year period. The product is now useless and have to spend another $180 + tax. It was a perfect stove for camping until the other day at camping when the gas was connected there was a leakage and lit on fire while cooking. At first, I thought it was the connector issue, but when I opened it up and examined, the gas pipe was cut. The black metal part that is supposed to tight and hold the gas pipe head was loose and let the head twisted every time when connected to the gas tank. So there is no way to re-use it until the pipe can be replaced. Talked to their CR (after failing to get a response from the online warranty claim) on the phone and the agent said there's no such a replacement part for it. and Most of their products are within one year warranty. Frustrated when something that I'd loved got broken and couldn't be covered by its warranty, leading itself useless a piece of metal. Gotta look for alternative item that a company stands behind for their products.
