I have an old North Face Thermoball that I absolutely love. It has finally worn out. I have recently purchased a new North Face Thermoball only to find that the cut in the chest/shoulders is different. The amount of arm movement before feeling restricted has significantly been reduced. If you are using the jack to stand around in, it may be a great cut for you. But if you are using it to do stuff, try in on in the store before buying online especially if you have owned the prior cut. I took some pictures where it looks like the new cut in one to two inches smaller in the chest area.

Cheap material, tears easily

My wife purchased this from a retail store. I wore it maybe 15 times. The outer layer is super thin and rips very easily. I was just moving stuff around the house and looked down and there were multiple rips in the fabric. The material is soft, but doesn't trap heat very well. Its good to wear when it's about 55-60 degrees out. Any colder and it doesn't really provide much warmth. Can't believe how fragile this thing is. The north face is a brand known for rugged hiking but this thing wouldn't last an afternoon in the outdoors. A small branch would tear right through this thing like plastic.

It's great and I'm really happy I bought it

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use it pretty often either as a mid layer or my main layer and it works really well. In colder weather I wear it over a hoodie or sometimes I wear it under a rain jacket or windbreaker. In cooler temperatures I wear it just over a regular shirt. It works great and also looks great. Can be a look not just for outdoors but also more casual meet ups with others or even to the workplace.

the zipper ruinned my jacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i bought the product in Ski site (Telluride, Denver) like 4 years ago, and was very happy with it, just that always the zipper was gripping my the fabric, since the fabric is padded and inflated so it is always being catched by the zipper and it started tearing the fabric... a bit disappointed. i expected better quality from TNF products.

Beware of Sizing

I have a version of this coat that I love that is a few years old now. It is an XL and fits great. When I received my new XL order of this coat, it had a tag marked "slim fit" which I did not notice in the description prior to ordering. When I put on the new coat, it was too snug to be comfortable. A huge difference when compared to the old XL. I assumed the same coat of the same size would fit the same...NOT true. The material also feels less comfortable in the wrist area. It's not as soft and smooth as before. Other than that, I'm sure this is still a good coat although I won't be wearing it. Really bummed. It would be nice if REI pointed out the manufacturer changed the cut of the coat. Bottom line, I need to restrict clothing purchases to "in-store" since there aren't really consistent standards in sizing so you don't know for sure until you try something on. REI's return policy is great but this is still a hassle. Unfortunately, this item will be returned.

Stylish and warm! I'd buy this jacket again!

This jacket was an early Christmas gift for my husband. He wore it today as he was out and about in high 30's degree temps. The jacket is lightweight but warm and allows for freedom of movement. Great large and deep pockets on each side, also one on the inside chest. Collar provides good warmth from wind on the neck. Color was right on as shown online and sleeves and overall length were perfect. I took some advice from some of the reviews for this item which said to order a size up. He wears an XL, I bought XXL. While he may have fit in an XL, the XXL was just right - gave him plenty of room if he wanted to layer. Excellent buy, delighted with this purchase!

I will stop buying from TNF

I think it is time to stop buying The North Face products. I have always been a medium and have several Thermoball jackets and a couple 3 in ones. I bought a light down jacket and had to return it as the medium was too tight. I reordered a large and kept it, but the sleeves were too long and I have to fold them. I just received a medium Thermoball Eco Jacket and it too is being sent back for being too tight. If I had not gotten a credits for a shell 3 in one covered by the lifetime warranty, I would not be buying any more from TNF, but it seems that it is getting hard to use the credit so that I can kiss TNF goodbye.

Thermoball Loyalist

This is probably my third Thermoball in the closet. But this one feels different based compared to the previous ones I have. It must be the new eco-friendly materials. Compared to the old ones which are little thinner, this one is a little thicker, a bit heavier, I would say. I like the matte finish compared to the shiny ones on the first ones. I just wish they had the logo in white stitching. I use this jacket a lot for my travel around the East Coast. (I did almost lose this one at the TSA check-in). It's also easy for me to tuck and hide. There is a Stow feature on the left pocket where you can fold it right in.
